The Dauphin Rotary Club has a new president. 

Jean-Louis Guillas, who previously served as Rotary president during the 2010-11 year, has assumed the duties once again. 

"The way our club works is you join the executive as a vice president, so you know that in two years time, you are going to be the president.  So I have been on the executive the past couple of years, so it is coming along.  We take a one-year term as president of the club."

Guillas replaces Darren Eddie, who held the president's role over the past year.   

The R-M of Dauphin has a new CAO. 

Reeve Ernie Sirski says Grady Stephenson has been hired to replace Nicole Chychota, who left earlier this year o become he new City Manager in Portage la Prairie. 

"He is coming here with some experience in municipal administration, which is a real plus for us.  He spent a few years in Carberry, and he comes with good qualifications and was highly recommended."

Sirski adds he can not say enough good things about Assistant CAO Tyral Solski, who filled in as the acting CAO while a permanent candidate was sought. 

"She has done an admirable job.  She has been with the municipality for a long time, but still when yoiu have to step into that role and not only do her own work but also the work of the Chief Administrative Officer, it had to put a strain on her.  So we commend her very much for what she did."

Stephenson's first day with the Municipality is July 28th

A 15-year-old is dead after the dirt bike he was driving collided with a deer.

On July 5 at 9:50 p.m., Dauphin RCMP responded to the collision on Road 114W in the RM of Dauphin, located southeast of Valley River. The 15-year-old male was lying on the road in medical distress. He was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The youth was travelling on the roadway when his dirt bike collided with a deer, he was thrown from the bike, and was not wearing a helmet.

"I offer my sincere condolences to the family, to the community, and to everyone who is grieving," said S/Sgt. Mark Smaill, Detachment Commander of the Parkland RCMP. "This is a heartbreaking tragedy that will have a lasting impact on so many within the Dauphin area."

The investigation continues. 

The youth was a student within the MVSD. 
The DRCSS is going to be open today (Monday) from 1 to 3 to offer counselling services for teens and families needing to access them. 

With Countryfest wrapped up for another year, the focus out at the Selo site now turns to Canada's National Ukrainian Festival. 

The 60th edition of that festival goes August 1st to 3rd.

CNUF President Kayla Gillis says ticket sales have been extremely strong so far.

But if you are thinking of going to this year's festival, Gillis adds you should buy your tickets right away.

"July 30th, which is the Wednesday before the festival, the early-bird pricing ends.  It is $165 right now for a weekend pass.  And if you wait until the Thursday and Friday right before the festival, and buy your weekend pass at the gates, you will be paying $225 for the weekend.  So please, we can not stress enough to get your weekend passes in advance."

Gillis adds all upper camping has been sold out, but there is still lower camping available.  

Dauphin residents are invited to a community wellness picnic on Thursday night.

It will take place from 5 to 7 pm in he green space next to the Dauphin Friendship Centre.  

DFC Executive Director Crystal Amyotte says they will have teachings from representatives of Red Road Campus in Swan River.  
"Shawn Charlebois will be there to show and share cultural items.  He even does things like pemican tasting and much more.  I think it is very important and nice for people to be able to learn more about the indigenous culture, and having him there just opens it up to the whole community to come and check things out and learn about it." 
There is no cost to attend the picnic.  
A Dauphin man arrested last month in connection with a disturbance in the city's downtown has been given a new court date. 
37-year-old Hector Drynock was arrested on June 16th, and is accused of verbally abusing an officer and health care workers. 
He is due back in court on August 26th.  
Meanwhile, a Winnipeg man arrested last month in connection with an attempted vehicle theft, that led to a stabbing incident in the R.M. of Mountain has made an other court appearance.
34-year-old Clinton Duck of Winnipeg was arrested near Bellsite, on numerous charges.
His matters have been put over to a later date.

People in the Interlake looking for something to do are encouraged to head to Eriksdale on Saturday and Sunday for their annual Creamery Days Fair and Rodeo.

Spokesperson Whitney Hogue says a busy day on Saturday kicks off with a pancake breakfast. 

"We will get into our parade at 11, and then opening remarks at 12.  Then the museum side will get going with guest speakers.  There will be a kids zone with glitter attoos and face painting, and some entertainment by Prairie Line.  Then at 3 o'clock we will move everything over to McEwen Park and hat is when the tractor pulls will start.  And then we wil move into the rodeo competition at 5. 

The day wraps up with Beer Gardens that will include a mechanical bull ride. 

On Sunday, there is more rodeo action, including a slack competition, horse drawn wagon rides, and more tractor pulls.  

First and second year med students are being given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at several health facilities through Prairie Mountain Health.

The local health authority is once again participating in the Discover Health Careers Manitoba program, which offers  experience in clinical, hospital and health-care environments to first and second year med students, that apply to their areas of training.    

26 approved positions are being offered by PMH this year in Pharmacy, Primary Care, Mental Health, Therapy Services, Acute Care, Public Health, and Nutrition Services.  

Prairie Mountain Health and Shared Health cost-share he program, which is for those  enrolled in a healthcare training program that fits a future need for PMH.

A brand new event is coming to Eddystone this weekend.

Eddyfest takes place Saturday at the Westlake Community Cenre. 
Shay Johnson is an Eddystone naive who plays in the group Confusia, who are the final act of he festival. 
He goes over the remainder of the lineup for the festival. 
"We have an act from Ashern opening things up.  Then we have Beryl Brandson from Eddystone and Rae Kujanpaa from Rorketon doing an acustic set.  Next will be Derek McCandless from Eriksdale.  He runs the RogerKimLee music festival and is going to do an acoustic set for us.  And fourth in line is Paige Drobot, who is an amazing performer originally from Morden."
There will also be food trucks on site as well as kids games, and the day will wrap up Karaoke. 
Tickets are $30 for adults, $5 for kids 6 to 12, with children under 6 admitted for free.
They will be available at the festival site.  

The Manitoba government is investing $4.8 million to assist the Town of Neepawa to upgrade two sections of Provincial Trunk Highway 16.

The  improvements will be done to the Trans-Canada Highway Yellowhead section, to improve access to the newly expanded health centre.

The first project involves a contribution toward the extension of Hamilton Street from Broadway Avenue and including  new access to Provincial Trunk Highway 16

The second project will complete the connectivity to Provincial Trunk Highway 16 where Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is proceeding with a traffic safety improvement project that will include a dedicated right-turn lane into the Neepawa Health Centre and a right-turn cut-off out of the hospital. 

Dauphin Consumers Co-op has announced the dates for its Equity Days. 
Members will be able to pick up their equity cheques from July 8th to 10th at the Co-op Food store in Dauphin as well as the Co-op store in Ste Rose. 
This year, $1.9 million is being returned to the community, including $1 million in cash back cheques to their member-owners.  
Charity BBQs will also be held during those days.
