A friday afternoon parade, all weekend kids zone, and beer gardens are some of the other highlights of fair weekend in Gilbert Plains.

Parents looking to enroll their kids in summer activities are being encouraged to check out the Dauphin Friendship Centre's summer camps.

Executive Director Crystal Amyotte says they still have room for a few weeks this summer.

"Week three, which is July 21st to 25th, we only have a few spots still open for that one.  But then in weeks five through seven, which are all in August

The camps are free to attend and take place at their youth centre.

The camps include games, snacks, and day trips. we have about 10 spots open in each of those."

To register your child, call the Friendship Centre at 204-638-5707.

The Minnedosa Fire Department is one of 20 fire departments in Manitoba to receive a special donation from Globalmedic.

A wildland skid has been added to their fleet of equipment thanks to this contribution.

The unit includes a 250-gallon tank, fire pump, and hose and suction line, all mounted onto an aluminum skid.

They are self-contained firefighting systems designed for rapid response and mobility in wildland firefighting.

Manitoba Beef Producers Association is bringing a very special workshop to Dauphin later this week.

Research and Extension Specialist Melissa Atchison says the event, set for Thursday afternoon at the Watson Art Centre, will focus on succession planning.
"The cool thing about it is we have a pair of brothers - Chris and Dwayne Thompson - from Saskatchewan, and hey have gone through an intergenerational farm transfer along with a farm merger.  So it is very interesting how they have navigated that within their family dynamic.  And they can talk about different strategies that they have used to get through that how they navigated it."
There is no cost to attend the workshop, but pre-registration is preferred so that they know how many people they will be providing lunch for.
You can register through the Manitoba Beef Producers website.

Lots of smiles in Winnipegosis this past weekend as another edition of Mossey River Days took place.

Riley Chartrand is one of the co-organizers of the event.
"We could not have asked for a better turnout.  The weather was great, we had record turnout levels in my mind.  And I think the kids enjoyed it and the adults enjoyed it as well.  The bands were great and the kids activities were great, and the slopitch was great.  Really not much more I could ask for."
Chartrand says their new events were received extremely well, while their tractor pulls had record participation.
He adds they will start planning next year's festival this fall.

Drug trafficking charges have been laid against a 17-year-old from Crane River following an incident in the community late Saturday night.

Ste Rose RCMP attempted to pull over a vehicle on Road 481 that they say was unregistered.

Instead of stopping, the driver kept going, eventually pulling into a driveway.

The driver then got out of the car and attempted to walk away before being taken into custody by police.

A search of the suspect found individually packaged substances that appeared to be marihuana and crack cocaine, as well as Canadian cash.

The 17-year-old was released from custody pending a future court date.

The Dauphin Rotary Club has a new president.

Jean-Louis Guillas, who previously served as Rotary president during the 2010-11 year, has assumed the duties once again.

"The way our club works is you join the executive as a vice president, so you know that in two years time, you are going to be the president.  So I have been on the executive the past couple of years, so it is coming along.  We take a one-year term as president of the club."

Guillas replaces Darren Eddie, who held the president's role over the past year.

The R.M. of Dauphin has a new C.A.O.

Reeve Ernie Sirski says Grady Stephenson has been hired to replace Nicole Chychota, who left earlier this year to become the new City Manager in Portage la Prairie.

"He is coming here with some experience in municipal administration, which is a real plus for us.  He spent a few years in Carberry, and he comes with good qualifications, and was highly recommended."

Sirski adds he can not say enough good things about Assistant C.A.O. Tyral Solski, who filled in as the acting C.A.O. while a permanent candidate was sought.

"She has done an admirable job.  She has been with the municipality for a long time, but, still, when you have to step into that role, and not only do her own work but also the work of the Chief Administrative Officer, it had to put a strain on her.  So we commend her very much for what she did."

Stephenson's first day with the Municipality is July 28th.

A 15-year-old is dead after the dirt bike he was driving collided with a deer.

On July 5 at 9:50 p.m., Dauphin RCMP responded to the collision on Road 114W in the RM of Dauphin, located southeast of Valley River. The 15-year-old male was lying on the road in medical distress. He was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The youth was travelling on the roadway when his dirt bike collided with a deer, he was thrown from the bike, and was not wearing a helmet.

"I offer my sincere condolences to the family, to the community, and to everyone who is grieving," said S/Sgt. Mark Smaill, Detachment Commander of the Parkland RCMP. "This is a heartbreaking tragedy that will have a lasting impact on so many within the Dauphin area."

The investigation continues.

With Countryfest wrapped up for another year, the focus out at the Selo site now turns to Canada's National Ukrainian Festival.

The 60th edition of that festival goes August 1st to 3rd.

CNUF President Kayla Gillis says ticket sales have been extremely strong so far.

But if you are thinking of going to this year's festival, Gillis adds you should buy your tickets right away.

"July 30th, which is the Wednesday before the festival, the early-bird pricing ends.  It is $165 right now for a weekend pass.  And if you wait until the Thursday and Friday right before the festival, and buy your weekend pass at the gates, you will be paying $225 for the weekend.  So please, we can not stress enough to get your weekend passes in advance."

Tickets are available at the festival office in the Dauphin Marketplace Mall, or online a www.cnuf.ca.

Gillis adds all upper camping has been sold out, but there is still lower camping available.
