They've qualified for the playoff round thanks to some late drama.

Scott, Boulbria, Hadway, and Fisher were trailing 5-4 against Wawanesa after six ends. They tied it up with a single in the seventh and coming home without the hammer, the team played an incredible end and stole a point for a thrilling 6-5 win over the Warriors.

The team's game on Friday evening against Oak Park is for first place in Pool 1. Oak Park also enters the game with two straight wins.

It was a perfect start for the Dauphin Clippers curling team.

Led by Avery Scott, the Clippers downed the Kelvin Clippers, 6-4, on Thursday afternoon. Dauphin gets the rest of Thursday off before playing Wawanesa and Oak Park on Friday.

The top two teams from each pool qualify for the playoffs. Scott is joined this week by Lucas Boulbria, Marlee Hadway, and Stuart Fisher.

On the girls side, the Swan Valley Tigers lost their first game against the Birtle Falcons, 4-6. They will play Miami and Jeanne-Sauve.

Bryson Yaschyshyn won 14 games last year with the Pembina Valley Hawks of the Manitoba U-18 AAA Hockey League and was one of the top netminders in the league.

His 2.60 goals-against average was the fourth-best in the league while his outstanding .932 save percentage was the best. He made 30 saves in game five of their first-round series against the Southwest Cougars476473595 983018040422436 364906330025453439 n as the 18-year-old propelled his Hawks into the second round. Bryson made some incredible saves in their second-round series against the Brandon Wheat Kings, however, the Wheat Kings were too much to handle.

Brandon won the league and advanced to the national final after winning the Telus Cup West Regionals.

Yaschyshyn solidified himself as a top-tier goalie and while playing with Pembina Valley last year, Bryson also played one game with the Winkler Flyers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). He was back with Winkler this year and made 17 saves in a win against the Swan Valley on October 12.

Following that game, the Flyers decided to part ways with Bryson and not long after, he was Dauphin-bound as Doug Hedley brought in Yaschyshyn to serve as the team's backup behind 20-year-old Cole Sheffield.

Bryson joined the Kings and immediately became a great teammate.

"Joining a new culture here in Dauphin has been great for me," said Yaschyshyn. "We have a great group of guys and great coaches. I've really enjoyed my time in Dauphin, I'm proud to be a King."

After winning his first game with Dauphin on November 16 when he made 19 saves in a victory against Swan Valley, Yaschyshyn was outstanding two weeks later making 21 saves in a win against the Virden Oil Capitals. Bryson won his third game with the Kings on January 11 against the Winnipeg Freeze and then struggled in his next start, an 8-0 loss against the Virden Oil Capitals on January 31.

Following two losses last weekend, Bryson got the nod on Sunday as the Kings played at the ICON Arena against the Flyers, the team that didn't believe in Bryson. Bryson was on a mission to prove the Flyers brass wrong and did he ever.

"You always want a good bounce-back game after a tough performance," said Yaschyshyn. "It's always fun going into a game where you want to play against an old team like that. I had all my family and friends there as well, it was a great atmosphere."

Bryson grew up just down the road in Morden and in front of his family and friends, he put on a show, a King Show. He made 34 saves, several of which were highlight reel ones, as Dauphin downed the league-leading and defending champion Flyers, 2-1.

It was Bryson's biggest game of his junior career as he propelled Dauphin to their third win over Winkler this year.

"It was a phenomenal feeling, it's honestly hard to describe how it felt to win that game," continued Yaschyshyn. "Going back and playing against a team, you want to go back and prove something. I have a message on my mask that I look at every day and it says "Prove Them Wrong". You're always going out to prove people wrong because they didn't believe in me, so it was an unbelievable feeling to prove them wrong."

Dauphin returned to the ice Wednesday and suffered a tough loss against the last place in the West Swan Valley Stampeders. Dauphin was denied their first chance to qualify for the Turnbull Cup playoffs. Despite the defeat, Dauphin still sits atop the West in a comfortable spot with 29 wins and 60 points, seven more than the Northern Manitoba Blizzard, and nine more than Neepawa.

As the team reported to the rink on Thursday morning, the page was turned and the focus shifted to preparing for what's next, not what happened in the past.

"It's not often that you walk onto a team that connects so well, our team gets together extremely well," continued Yaschyshyn. "Guys help each other out when things aren't going the way we would have hoped and everyone stands by one another. We have an incredible group and I'm happy to be a part of it."

Dauphin's next test is the Neepawa Titans who will come to Credit Union Place on Friday evening at 7:30. Whether Bryson starts in that game or doesn't, the star from Morden will wear the Kings jersey with pride knowing this is a special group capable of incredible things.

Friday's game is the second of a four-game homestand and Bryson says the vibe heading in is positive.

"To be the best in the West means something," ended Yaschyshyn. "We're out here to prove people wrong and make a big trip in the playoffs this year."

Darnell Duff chats with Bryson Yaschyshyn. You can hear Darnell's full chat with Bryson during the Dauphin Kings Power Play Show after the 4:00 p.m. news, weather, business, and sports on Friday.

Get To Know Yaschyshyn:

What are some of your hobbies? I love being outside whether it's hanging out at the lake or playing other sports. Also love spending time with my friends.

Not many goalies join their teammates at the blue line during O Canada, why do you? I stand alone in that net but at the end of the day, I'm on the ice competing with 19 other guys wearing the same crest. If I have an opportunity to be beside them, that's where I want to be. We're a team.

What is your favourite hockey memory? That other night in Winkler was a great feeling. Also winning the provincial championships when I was 13, was a neat experience.

What is your favourite music?  Country

What's your favourite post-game meal? Pizza

What's one destination you'd love to visit?  Sweden

What about your favourite childhood memory?  I would say playing mini sticks with friends and family

Who is your favourite NHL goalie and why?  It was Carey Price because he was always so calm and smooth. Now it would be Juuse Saros or Dustin Wolf because they're small and athletic which is something I can relate to.

Dayson Martin played three games with the Parkland U-15 Rangers during the 2022-23 season, collecting one goal.

He returned to the team the following season and made a name for himself, opening eyes across the province. In 29 regular season games, Martin fuelled the team's offence with 27 goals and 49 points. Martin finished second in team scoring and carried his momentum into the playoffs, collecting three goals and 13 points to lead the team.

From Swan River, Martin has a knack for getting himself into open space and delivering. As the 2024-25 regular season slowly ends, Martin is well into his first year with the U-18 team.

"It means a lot to be a Ranger. I grew up always wanting to watch them and be a Ranger," said Martin. "To be that guy now, it's an awesome feeling and something I don't take for granted."

With five games left in the regular season, Martin has put together an outstanding season as he sits second in team scoring. He has 16 goals and 37 points paired with two game-winning goals. Dayson has been a game changer and while the jump from U-15 to U-18 is daunting for many, the Swan River star has risen to the challenge and taken his game to the next level.

"I'm very happy with how things have gone. I'm getting a ton of opportunities and looking to take advantage of them," continued Martin. "All the coaches have put a lot of trust in me and my goal is to produce on a nightly basis."

Martin, who skates three times a week from 8:30 to 9:30 with the Hardline Hockey in his hometown, was fired up to play in the team's Ukrainian Night this past Saturday at Credit Union Place. While Dauphin came up short in that game, it was one to remember. It was the biggest crowd that Dayson has played in front of and the memory of it will last a lifetime.

"That was awesome, the rink was packed, and it was awesome to play in front of that many people," commented Martin. "They were loud and cheered us on the entire time. Just a super fun experience to be a part of."

With that game and the team's 5-1 victory on Sunday now in the past, Martin is now preparing for the home stretch. With five games left in the regular season, the Rangers are in a heated battle for a playoff spot. They're in sixth place, four points behind the fifth-place Southwest Cougars and six back of the Thrashers in fourth.

The teams chasing them aren't far behind, either. Pembina Valley, tied with Interlake for eighth, is just five back of the Rangers. At this point, Parkland holds its fate. Win and they'll qualify for the big dance.

"You can just tell when the guys get to the rink, everyone wants to make it and make a push," said Martin. "It's an exciting time for our group and it's up to us to step up and prove that we're a good team."

The Rangers are off to Manitoba's capital for two games this weekend against the Thrashers. That's followed by a visit to Brandon next Wednesday before finishing the regular season next weekend at the Sun Gro Centre in Beausejour.

However the remainder of the season shakes up for the Rangers, there is a lot to be proud of for Dayson and the rest of the club. Parkland's 23 wins are the most the program has won in a season since the 2014-15 campaign when they won 24 games.

Martin knows the team is up against some stiff competition the rest of the way and making the playoffs won't be easy, but fully believes the team can get the job done.

"We all really want it, everyone wants to do it for one another," continued Martin. "Everyone has one another's back and that's important, we're an extremely tight-knit group."

While preparing for Saturday's game in Winnipeg, Dayson also remembers wearing the Rangers jersey while playing in his hometown earlier this season. The team won two games in October at the Swan River Centennial Arena. Dayson still skates there several times a week and was thrilled to get the chance to play in front of his family and friends where he grew up.

"Yeah, that was awesome, we don't get that chance often," ended Martin. "The younger generation in Swan River had the chance to see what high-level hockey looks like as well, so there's many positives to it. It was two games that I won't forget."

The Dauphin Clippers picked up their 11th win in a row on Wednesday night.

Ronin Mouck and Lyric Smith scored two goals apiece as the Clippers downed Major Pratt, 5-2, to continue their massive winning streak. Julien Lopez also scored for Dauphin in the win.

Dauphin plays two home games this weekend, Saturday night at 7:30 against Swan Valley and Sunday at 12:30 against the Renegades.

The Dauphin Kings have to wait another day to clinch a spot in the Turnbull Cup playoffs.

There isn't much to say other than it was an underwhelming performance for the Kings as they lost to one of the bottom teams in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) in the Swan Valley Stampeders, 4-2. The loss was even more shocking considering Dauphin beat the best team in the league in Winkler on Sunday night.

The Stampeders scored three goals in the third period to win the game while Dauphin failed to score in the third. Joey Kubas and Havyril Simchuk scored for Dauphin in the game.

The Kings outshot the Stampeders, 47-25, however, Rowan White played incredible for Swan Valley as they kept their playoff hopes alive. They're still 10 points back of the Virden Oil Capitals for the fourth and final playoff spot in the MGEU West Division.

Dauphin continues their four-game homestand on Friday when they welcome the Neepawa Titans to Credit Union Place, puck drop is at 7:30.

The Dauphin Clippers made it 10 in a row on Tuesday.

Playing an all-Parkland battle against the Roblin Raiders, Dauphin racked up 42 shots and downed the Raiders, 9-3. Maddox Andres opened the scoring for Roblin in the game, however, Dauphin took over from there and never looked back.

Ronin Mouck scored three more goals for Dauphin while Boston Karlson and Jesse Hockridge each scored a pair. Ethan Carnegie and Josh Beyette also scored for Dauphin while Chase Glover played 40 minutes and Ethan Myhre played 20. Grady Turetsky and Eastyn Hramalak also scored for Roblin.

Dauphin jumped ahead of Swan Valley with the win and now sits in second place alone, only behind the 27-0 Vincent Massey Vikings. The Clippers have won 22 of their 27 games and will enter as heavy favourites when they head to Russell to play Major Pratt on Wednesday.

Cade Legaarden is putting on a show for fans at the rink.

The Grandview star has been named the CCM Player of the Week in the Manitoba U-18 AAA Hockey League after an outstanding week.

In three games last week, Cade scored three times while collecting six points to propel the Rangers to two wins as they hunt for a playoff spot. He had two goals in the team's 4-3 win over Yellowhead last Tuesday before posting another goal on Ukrainian Night in a shootout loss against Kenora.

On Sunday, Legaarden was the setup man as he notched three assists in the team's dominating 5-1 win over the Thistles. The Rangers are six points back of fourth and four back of fifth while being five points ahead of the ninth-place Pembina Valley Hawks.

They're heading to Winnipeg to play the Thrashers this weekend.

Cade has 19 goals and 18 assists this season, with his 37 points putting him tied for second in team scoring.

The Swan Valley Tigers varsity girls' basketball team defended their home court over the weekend.

Hosting their home tournament, the Tigers went coast-to-coast and won the title with a thrilling 56-49 win over Margaret Barbour in the final, in front of an incredible crowd.

In the round-robin, Swan Valley downed Margaret Barbour, 58-30, and Kamsack, 61-26.

It was Parkland Strong in Brandon over the weekend.

Eight members of the Parkland Gators Swim Club qualified for the provincial championships and multiple gold medals were brought back home.

Avery Scott was hooked from the moment she first stepped onto the ice as a kindergartener.

With a fierce dedication and an undeniable passion for the sport, she has honed her skills over the years, becoming one of the top junior curlers in Dauphin.

Now, under the bright lights of the Beausejour Sportsplex, she continues to chase greatness, sliding and sweeping her way toward victory.

"It was something I wanted to try at the time and I'm very glad I did," said Scott.

Scott was a divisional champion during her days in middle school. While that was an accomplishment that the star curler from Dauphin will never forget, she was looking to pad her curling resume once entering high school at the Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School (DRCSS).

During her first three years at the lone high school in Dauphin, Avery and her foursome attempted to qualify for the provincial championships, but came up just short at the zone championships. Now a grade 12 senior, Avery had one last chance.

Going up against rinks from Swan River, Glenella, and Alonsa, Avery and her team were dominant, winning all three games to earn the provincial berth. For the first time in her high school career, Avery is heading to the provincial curling championships.

"It's awesome. This is my first year with this team and it feels amazing," said Scott. "This is something we have looked forward to for a long time. Finally getting a chance to compete in the provincial event is going to be great."

Avery is joined by Stuart Fisher who plays third, Lucas Boulbria at second, and Marlee Hadway at lead. The foursome from Dauphin are Zone 8 champions and Avery is thrilled to be a part of the team and playing skip.

"We have so many strengths on this team," said Scott. "We see the proper shot, call it, and then make it. We're a very strong team."

Avery and her foursome are set for battle in a tough pool alongside Oak Park, Wawanesa, and Kelvin. Their quest for provincial glory begins Thursday morning at 11:45 against Kelvin, followed by a Friday morning showdown at 9 against Wawanesa. They’ll wrap up round-robin play under the Friday night lights at 6, with hopes of securing a playoff spot.

Only the top two teams from each pool advance, with the provincial championship set for Saturday night at 6. The competition is fierce, featuring some of the best high school teams in the province, but Avery isn’t backing down.

She knows the road won’t be easy, but with confidence in her team and a winning mindset, she’s ready to take on the challenge

"I think we're going to do well, looking forward to playing against teams I haven't played before," offered Scott.

On top of competing in high school, Avery has also been playing in ladies' night at the Dauphin Curling Club since middle school and she's looking forward to having her family right by her side as the Dauphin Clippers curling team competes in the 2025 Manitoba High School Athletics Association (MHSAA) provincial curling championships in Beausejour.

After posting a big 2-1 win over the Winkler Flyers on Sunday, the Dauphin Kings remain as honourable mentions this week in the Canadian Junior Hockey League's Top 20 rankings.

Dauphin earned three of a possible six points over the weekend, which saw the team lose in a shootout against Steinbach before being blanked by Niverville on Saturday. Dauphin stormed back from three goals down twice on Friday en route to what goes down as a successful weekend for the club.

Dauphin continues to lead the MGEU West Division at 29-12-1-1. They're seven points ahead of Northern Manitoba, with one game in hand. The team's busy February continues on Wednesday when the Swan Valley Stampeders are in town. Dauphin then plays Friday (Neepawa), Sunday (Niverville), and next Tuesday (Northern Manitoba), before heading on the road for three games next weekend against Steinbach, Niverville, and the Blues.

The next broadcast is on February 18 with Darnell Duff and Jeff Henson, starting with the Parkland Source for Sports pregame show at 7:20.

The Trenton Golden Hawks of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) remain on top of the rankings. They've won 12 straight games and are 41-5-2-0. The Greater Sudbury Cubs of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL), Rockland Nationals of the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL), Edmundston Blizzard of the Maritime Hockey League (MHL), and Leamington Flyers (OJHL) round out the Top 5.

In Manitoba, Jayce Legaarden and the Flyers are ranked seventh. Dating back to November 8, Winkler earned points in 26 straight games before Dauphin snapped their streak on Sunday night. Led by Brody Beauchemin's 49 points and Legaarden's 47, the Flyers lead the league with 70 points, three more than Steinbach. Liam Ernst also leads all goaltenders with eight shutouts.

The Steinbach Pistons are ranked 10th. The second-ranked Pistons survived a scare against Dauphin on Friday and beat Winkler in a shootout on Saturday night. Six of their next 11 games will come at the HyLife Centre. At this time, they're scheduled to play their final two regular-season games at the Southeast Event Centre, their brand-new facility that is currently under construction.

Steinbach is led by league leader Connor Paronuzzi who has 66 points while Christian Green has been a workhorse between the pipes, playing 2091 minutes, only behind Cole Sheffield and winning a league-leading 26 games.

Dauphin will play the Pistons next Friday at the HyLife Centre.

Blake Spiller and the Portage Terriers are ranked 13th, down three spots from last week. Portage has won four straight games, two of which came against Steinbach last weekend. Portage is third overall in the league with 32 wins and 65 points. Cameron Bullinger (53) and Nolan Nenow (49) lead the way offensively for Portage. They play the Blues on Wednesday and Steinbach on Friday.

Bo Eisner, Will Munro, and the Melfort Mustangs of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) are ranked sixth. With 36 wins and 72 points, Melfort is the lone team in the SJHL to have clinched a playoff spot as they're six points ahead of Flin Flon. Melfort is looking to defend the championship they won last year.

Flin Flon, meanwhile, is ranked 14th this week. Their 26-game point streak was recently snapped, but they still have a strong grip on second place, eight points ahead of Weyburn, while still being in a spot to catch the league-leading Mustangs.
