If you have been considering adopting a pet, this weekend is a prime opportunity to do so.
The Parkland Humane Society is hosting an Adoption event this Saturday from noon to 3 at Pet Valu.
Office Administrator Jenn Langlois says they will be bringing over a few puppies, with hopes of finding them forever homes.
"Heidi, Frankie, Benji, as well as maybe bringing one of our older girls Rosie. She is 5 years old and just came back to the shelter. She is an amazing dog. It allows people to meet as many animals as they can at one time. It also allows people to see the character of the puppies more than just the picture or their description and see how they act in a new environment and that they are truly magnificent animals to own."
Langlois adds there are some factors you should consider if you are thinking of adopting a cat or dog.
"People should consider their home life. If you are having a baby soon, is introducing a pet at the same time a good idea? Do you have a fenced-in yard? Are you able to walk a dog? All of these things as well as being able to provide food and shelter and all of that for them. And just to be able to raise them how they are meant to be cared for."
The cost to adopt a puppy is $400, which includes all of their shots, as well as spaying or neutering.
Adult dogs are $330 to adopt, while adult cats are $100, and $ 150 for kittens, which will also have all of their shots and will be spayed or neutered.
There will also be a fundraising component to the event, where you can make a donation and help the Humane Society "Fill the Clover".

Parkland Chamber of Commerce continued recognizing some of its members last night with their annual Chamber Celebration night.
Executive Director Stephen Chychota was very impressed with the quality of this year's winners and nominees.
"It almost seems like every year it gets a little better. These folks are doing some great work, and as I said during the night, some of the praise that these people get in their nomination forms is fantastic, and so much fun to read through all of that and see what people are doing and what they are involved with."
Among the winners were Gilbert Plains Country Club as Outstanding business, and Jodi and Scott McAmmond of Trakside Motors of Grandview as business people of the year.
The Watson Art Centre received the Community Appreciation Group award, with Cam Bennett accepting on their behalf
"It is very exciting to be noticed and to be honoured. The Watson has been a part of the Chamber for 51 years, so it is nice to be recognized for what the Watson does for the community."
MDB Outdoors claimed the best startup business while Jodie Romanow of Relief Business Solutions took home best Side Hustle job.
Two awards were also renamed last night.
Local lawyer Doug Deans received the Stephen Chychota Legacy award, while Ashley Vandepoele was presented the Eric Irwin Community Appreciation Individual award.
"I (get involved in my community) because I genuinely want to make things better with each of our events and each of our committees. And make sure we have equitable access for individuals and work very hard on all of the committees that I sit on to make sure that things are affordable in our community and celebrate the individuals that live within them," said Vandepoele.

The province will unveil its financial blueprint for the coming year this afternoon, with the government hinting that its new budget will include support for people affected by tariffs imposed by the United States, as well as new spending to create jobs.
Finance minister Adrian Sala says there will essentially be two budgets β a regular one and a contingency one to deal with the impact of tariffs on Manitoba goods.
The province has already offered businesses the option of deferring some taxes, and Sala hinted more help may be on the way.
Sala adds they remain committed to balancing the budget and ending a string of deficits before the next election, expected in 2027, but says spending is required to bolster Manitobaβs economy.

As spring inches closer and the roads begin to clear, it's once again time for CAA's Worst Road Competition.
Evald Friesen, Government and Community Relations with CAA is thrilled to bring it back, as it sees a lot of results.
"What happened was when we revealed our top ten worst roads for 2024, we saw Premier Kinew stand up at the Manitoba legislature during the question period and commit to fixing it. Now that's all well and good, but when the commitment came, by way of financial contribution, the people in Brandon were treated to a repaired 18th street."
By voting every day at CAAWorstRoads.Com, you can nominate your local community road, and make it known that it needs fixing.
"96% of Manitobans said that they were concerned or very concerned with the state of our infrastructure. 84% said that roads were not being repaired in a timely manner, and 61% said it's actually getting worse said it's actually getting worse. Our governments are listening, we've demonstrated that by way of the success we have seen through our campaign. Make no mistake, your nomination matters"
On top of getting roads fixed, People who nominate get entered into a draw for Free gas for a year!
So let your voice be heard on which Road is Manitoba's Worst!
Head to CAA's Website to submit your Nomination!
