Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle In Winnipeg

A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle this morning.

Winnipeg police says the incident occurred around 3 a.m. this morning on Waverley Street near Bishop Grandin Boulevard.

The area is blocked off as police investigate.

Changes Made For Parking Tickets 

Changes begin tomorrow for anyone who wants to challenge parking tickets in Winnipeg.

Drivers will no longer go to provincial court -- they'll see a screening officer at the Winnipeg Parking Authority, either in-person or online.

A second level of review by a provincially appointed adjudicator will also be available if a driver wants to contest the ticket further.

The city says the changes are required by the province under the Municipal Bylaw Enforcement Act, which comes into effect tomorrow.

Saskatchewan Politician Impaired 

Saskatchewan deputy premier Don McMorris says ``there are no words to describe how sorry'' he is for getting behind the wheel after drinking.

McMorris -- who oversaw the province's liquor and gaming authority and other Crown agencies -- announced yesterday he was resigning as deputy premier and leaving the governing Saskatchewan

Party caucus until allegations of impaired driving are dealt with by the courts.

Premier Brad Wall says a new deputy premier will be named tomorrow.

Tragically-Hip

A Regina man is on his way home from Winnipeg after watching the first eight shows of the Tragically Hip's farewell tour.

Kerry Rodgers says each show has been different and lead singer, Gord Downie, has been amazing despite fighting terminal brain cancer.

Rodgers says he's met hardcore fans of the band from all over the world at the shows he's seen from B-C through to Winnipeg.

The Tragically Hip's final show is planned for August 20th in Kingston, Ontario.

Belgium Attack 

Belgian authorities still haven't released any information about the machete-wielding man who attacked two policewomen yesterday in the city of Charleroi, about 60 kilometres south of the capital Brussels.

One of the officers suffered deep facial wounds.

Authorities say the man shouted "Allahu akbar!'' during the attack before being shot and killed by police.

Belgium's prime minister is meeting with the country's security services today.

Olympics Security

An exciting day for Canada's athletes at the Rio Games was also an exiting day for those not involved in competition.

While Canada's Womens 4-by-100-metre swim team was earning a bronze medal, police detonated an unattended bag that was left near the finish line of a cycling race.

In another incident, a stray bullet pierced the roof of a media tent -- but no one was hurt.

Organizers have also been apologizing for the long lines into events due to strict security measures.
