Those with a business idea have a good opportunity to win up to $30 thousand.

Fusion Credit Union has launched a business idea competition called Community Infusion, which infuses economic growth and prosperity into local communities.

Mike Csversko, Business Development Manager says that Fusion Credit Union is committed to the communities that they live, operate, and play in.

“When we looked internally, obviously we have patronage payouts to reward members throughout the year. We have the full circle fund which is geared toward community groups and non-profit organizations. So Community Infusion, we took the concepts from those other two to create something around entrepreneurs or small business development in our area.”

Those interested have until October 31st to apply.

“There’s not a lot of criteria this year, we basically left it wide open. Applicants can have a new business idea, they can have an existing business that they’re trying to grow, or they may be interested in purchasing and improving an existing business in a community where Fusion operates.”

Applicants who are chosen to move onto Phase 2 of the competition will be required to submit a business plan by November 15th, 2021.

Finalists will be invited to present their business pitches to a panel of judges at a public event in Dauphin in December. The winner will be announced that evening.

Those interested can apply here.

A woman from Manitoba faces multiple charges following ten witness reports of her reckless driving being reported to Swift Current RCMP on September 1st.

At one point, it's reported she accelerated her car upwards of 200 kilometres per hour and then stopped several times abruptly.

RCMP said that spike belt was not used in this situation out of concern for their own officer's safety

The chase ended near Swift Current when an RCMP vehicle clipped her car, pushing it off the highway and into a ditch, where she was placed under arrest.

Faith Prince, 38, faces charges including impaired driving, dangerous driving and possession of stolen property.

She had her second court appearance Friday morning.

Police noted that Prince was also wanted in Manitoba on several outstanding warrants.

UPDATE:

On Friday at 5:45 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance in downtown Dauphin; they attempted to speak with a 22-year-old male on the scene.

When the man was advised that he was being placed under arrest for breaching several court-imposed conditions, he ran back into his apartment complex and barricaded himself inside the apartment.

Officers did not pursue the 22-year-old as it was believed he was armed with a knife.

The suspect was believed to be alone in the apartment.

After several hours of communication with the suspect, he exited the apartment and was arrested without incident.

The 22-year-old male was taken back to the Dauphin Detachment and may face charges of Resisting Arrest, Failing to Comply with Release Order, Mischief, and Failing to Comply with an Undertaking.

The investigation in this case continues.

Advanced Education, Skills and Immigration Minister Wayne Ewasko and Health and Seniors Care Minister Audrey Gordon have announced that nine family doctors have started or will start practicing in rural Interlake communities, including Ashern.

Ewasko says four of the new physicians are graduates of the one-year Medical Licensure Program for International Medical Graduates offered through the University of Manitoba, which is designed to integrate physicians who have practiced internationally into the Canadian medical system.

“This program has allowed physicians who have practiced internationally to better understand the needs of rural patients and the variety of health-care services people require.”

Recruitment efforts by the region and private clinics are seeing new physicians begin practice in Beausejour, Eriksdale, Lac du Bonnet, Teulon, and Selkirk, with internationally experienced medical graduates working in Ashern and Pine Falls.

The four international medical graduate physicians will be working in rural and underserviced areas of Manitoba and have made a four-year commitment to the region.

The minister noted the nine family physicians include two doctors who completed their two-year residency program in the Interlake-Eastern RHA, as well as three who were trained in rural and Northern Manitoba through the Dauphin, Brandon and Northern-Remote residency programs.

The recent government announcement has impacted multiple changes to Dauphin Recreation Services and their facilities.

As of today, only individuals who are fully immunized against COVID-19 will be able to enter Dauphin Rec’s facilities.

Meaning if you plan to go to a Dauphin Rec facility, you should be prepared to show both your vaccine card and your ID.

Since It is not required for children under 17 to be fully vaccinated to participate in youth recreational sports, Dauphin Rec will not require proof of vaccination for anyone in that age group participating in scheduled youth programming.

Ineligible youth (children up to 11 years old) will be able to enter their facilities with an adult who meets the vaccination requirement.

Unless you are engaging in physical activity, masks will continue to be mandatory while at the facility.

Dauphin Rec says they will continue to follow and adapt to all Public Health Orders.
