On Thursday, Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) Minister of Housing and Property Management announced a housing project in Binscarth, in the RM of Russell.
This project is part of the MMF’s ongoing commitment to affordable, safe, and accessible housing for Métis citizens across Manitoba.
This housing project will consist of two duplexes, for a total of four affordable seniors housing units.
Both units will include features to accommodate residents with mobility issues such as space underneath the sink and stove to allow for walkers and wheelchairs, grab bars in the bathroom, a ramp to the front door and more.
The units will also feature amenities such as a sunroom, deck, an exterior storage shed, luxury vinyl flooring and high efficiency appliances so that future tenants may live in comfort.
The duplexes in Binscarth are the same design as those already constructed in Portage La Prairie and those currently being built in St. Ambroise.
The MMF Housing Department is currently conducting market research and engaging with the MMF Regions to determine where future projects are most needed.
