The province is announcing an additional $100 million towards infrastructure projects for kindergarten to grade 12 schools.
These projects will include speeding up the build of 20 new schools, upgrades to electrical systems, upgrades to libraries, and more funding for arts and athletic programs.
The following schools will receive provincial funding:
Fisher Branch Early Years – replacements to mechanical systems
Minnedosa Collegiate – structural replacements
Ste. Rose School – vocational addition
Swan Valley Regional Secondary School – theatre/band room renovation
Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute – new addition to school
A total of over $260 million will be directed to schools in the province.

The Northgate Trail system just outside of Dauphin features 26 kilometres of trail created through land-use agreements with six separate landowners and it is one of the nicest trail networks in all of Manitoba.
Construction on the trails started a few years ago after Dauphin was awarded the Manitoba Summer Games, which will now take place in 2024. Attracting hikers and bikers from all over the province, the Northgate Trails have become a hotspot.
And after a recent incident, Clayton Swanton with the Dauphin Derailleurs is reminding people of proper etiquette when using the trails. On Sunday, it was reported that two individuals on horses entered the trails via the Edwards Creek trail in Riding Mountain National Park. They then proceeded to ride their horses past multiple Northgate Trail markers and as a result, damage was done to parts of the clay-based trails that were very soft due to spring conditions.
Swanton says it was unfortunate to hear of the news, especially with how hard volunteers work to keep the trails in great shape.
"The trails are pretty specific to non-motorized and non-equestrian to protect the integrity of the trails," said Swanton, Infrastructure Chair with the Derailleurs. "When things like this happen, it makes it less enjoyable for others and it isn't as safe, either."
Clayton hopes it was unintentional, but he says there are many markers that let you know you're on the trail system. With warmer temperatures on the way as early as later this week, Swanton says everyone is very excited for what should be an extremely busy summer on the trails.
"Whether you're a biker or a walker, this is a great place to be, and we hear nothing but great things from people that do take advantage of the trails," offered Swanton.
And with summer just right around the corner, Swanton says it's tremendous that people in the region and around the province can utilize the Northgate Trails whenever they want.
"It's great to see so many people taking pride in getting their hands dirty to create this for the community," ended Swanton.

RCMP are looking for information after a robbery in Ashern.
On March 16th RCMP received a report of a robbery at a bank on Highway 6 in Ashern.
Police say a woman was using the ATM drive-through when she was approached by the female suspect, who demanded the keys to her vehicle and claimed she had a gun. No firearm was seen.
The victim managed to get away and call the police.
The female suspect is described as 5’4”, around 25-years-old, with a large build, and blonde hair. She was seen wearing a black face mask, black toque, and gold/brown jacket.

The province has expanded the eligibility to receive a COVID-19 vaccine in Manitoba.
Eligibility to be vaccinated at a super site or pop-up clinic in the province has been expanded to include people aged 59 and older, and First Nations people 39 and older.
Appointments for super sites and pop-up clinics can be made online or by calling 1-844-626-8222.
The AstraZeneca vaccine - distributed at pharmacies and medical clinics - is open to all Manitobans aged 65 and older, as well as Manitobans aged 55 to 64 with specific high-risk health conditions.
The province is expected to open Manitoba’s seventh vaccine supersite in Steinbach in May, at 294 Lumber Ave.

Hudbay Minerals Inc in northern Manitoba has suspended operations after several of its' workers tested positive for COVID-19.
The company says seven of their workers at sites in Snow Lake and Flin Flon have tested positive for the virus.
The company is now waiting for the testing results of several other potential cases.
All positive employees are self-isolating.
Hudbay says operations at the Stall Mill in Snow Lake have come to a halt, as they are understaffed.

The province has detailed plans to consult with teachers and parents about a major overhaul to Manitoba’s education system announced last month.
Education Minister Cliff Cullen announced the creation of a parent task force, made up of MLAs, parents, and school and community leaders to help improve parent engagement in Manitoba schools.
The task force will lead 15 town halls to hear from each region about how to ensure parental involvement in the province's education system.

The snowfall warning that was issued for Southern Manitoba on Saturday has ended.
A low pressure system from northeast Ontario pushed though the province and brought heavy snowfall Monday and Tuesday.
We will see more seasonal temperatures beginning on Thursday, with a high of plus 2.
Travel may still be difficult at this time.

Ste. Rose RCMP have arrested a 36-year-old man who had a warrant out for his arrest last week.
Manuel Patrick Houle is facing charges including assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, forcible entry, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and failure to comply with a release order.
RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance.

Over $11,000 in tickets were issued to Manitobans last week for breaking COVID-19 guidelines.
Thirteen tickets were issued to Manitoba businesses and individuals.
Eight $1,296 fines were issued to individuals for various offences, and five $298 tickets were issued for not wearing a mask in an indoor public place.
A business in Winnipeg was fined $1,296.
Officials advise that three of the eight $1,296 tickets issued last week were in relation to gatherings in private residences or outdoors.

The RCMP in Yorkton is still looking for Mekayla Bali -- who would now be 21-years-old -- five years after she was last seen at a bus depot in Yorkton.
There have been reported sightings of Bali, including at an Edmonton pub, but her whereabouts still remain unknown to police.
Police have expanded their investigation to all four western provinces and the United States Pacific Northwest. A $40,000 reward is being offered for her safe return.
You're asked to call the Yorkton RCMP at 306-786-2400 if you have any information that could help the police locate Bali.
