A 26-year-old woman from Russell is facing drug charges after a traffic stop by the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS).
Around midnight on May 6th, officers from the Waywayseecappo Detachment pulled over a van because of the Curfew by-law.
The man driving the car consented to a search, and police discovered a purse containing two pipes, a small torch, Tylenol 3’s and a pill bottle with a powdered substance believed to be cocaine.
The purse belonged to a woman in the vehicle, who was then arrested for Possession of Cocaine, and also charged under the Emergency Measures Act – Curfew By-Law.
She was released on conditions for a court date of August 5, 2020.

Public Health officials have announced there are two new cases of the virus in Manitoba.
This brings the total number of confirmed and probable cases to 289. There are four people in hospital, and one individual is in intensive care.
There are 35 active cases, and the number of deaths due to COVID-19 remains at 7.
Over the weekend, two more cases were identified as part of the workplace cluster at a trucking company in Brandon. Public Health officials say the affected staff and their close contacts are self-isolating, and detailed contact tracing continues.
There have been a total of 26 COVID cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region.
As of May 10, there have been 1,294 COVID-19 tests conducted in Brandon. The Dauphin drive-thru screening site has conducted 270 tests; while Swan River has conducted 35 tests.
Chief Provincial Public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin says it's vital that people stay home and avoid going out if they are ill, or showing respiratory symptoms.

In addition to this week being National Nurses Week, it’s Canada Road Safety Week.
The focus of Road Safety Week is how alcohol continues to be a major factor in road fatalities.
One-third of the 16 fatal crashes from the first four months of 2020 involved alcohol.
The data shows that in those 16 fatal crashes, 17 people died, which is slightly lower than the 10 year average of 17 fatal crashes and 19 deaths.
Of those 17 deaths, at least five were alcohol-related and two didn’t wear a seatbelt.
Two pedestrians were killed in the first four months of 2020 compared to six in the same period of 2019.
Off-road vehicle fatalities have increased in the first four months.
There were 7 fatalities compared to one in the same period of 2019 and the five year average of 4 from 2014-2018.

The Dauphin Fire Department responded to a grass and brush fire Saturday afternoon around 1, 2 miles north of Valley River.
Upon arrival, firefighters were told of a couple of old sheds involved in the fire.
After working tirelessly for about 3 hours, the fire was brought under control and any hot spots were extinguished to prevent a rekindle.
The DFD is reminding the public that residents of the RM of Dauphin require burn permits, available from the RM of Dauphin, for any open fires and to be aware of the weather and wind conditions before lighting any fires.
Proper fire guards are also required to be in place and all open fires fall under the provisions of The Wildfires Act & Manitoba Burning of Crop Residue Regulations.
Any person found negligent of the Act & Regulations or the RM of Dauphin’s Burning By-Law No. 3002, is liable for each offence consisting of a penalty and shall pay the actual costs incurred.

As part of their 25th anniversary of doing business in the Parkland, Dean Cooley GM in Dauphin has decided to give back.
The dealership presented a cheque on Saturday evening for $25,000 to the Dauphin and District Community Foundation, with the funds being directed to support healthcare.
General Manager Dean Cooley says the big donation has been in the works for a number of years.
He says there were some questions about whether this was the right time to make the donation, with business in the Parkland facing challenges due to COVID-19. “But at the same time, the community is looking for the support of one another. We concluded this was the perfect time to make a donation like this — to show Dauphin and the Parkland how much we appreciate their support over the last 25 years — and to direct the funds to healthcare, just makes a lot of sense right now.”

Other events planned for Dean Cooley GM’s 25th anniversary have been put on hold until there’s a safer way to celebrate with staff and customers.

The three new coronavirus cases identified by public health officials has brought Manitoba's total to 287.
There are 4 people in the hospital with one in intensive care.
Officials are reporting 33 active cases and 247 recoveries.
641 lab tests were done yesterday bringing the total number of tests to 30, 647 since early February.
The province is lifting the one-month supply limit for prescription drugs starting tomorrow. That means Manitobans who have long-term prescriptions can fill them as per the prescriber's directions up to a three-month supply as long as they aren't affected by shortages.

There were no new cases of COVID-19 identified by Manitoba health officials today.
The number of lab-confirmed and probable cases remains at 284. The number of deaths remains at 7.
There are 30 active cases in the province. Out of four people in hospital, none are in intensive care.
Since yesterday, there were 682 laboratory tests performed in Manitoba.
The Prairie Mountain Health region has had 22 cases identified since the beginning of the pandemic.
Starting Monday, May 11th, the Manitoba government is lifting the one-month supply limit on prescription drugs — if the drug is not affected by shortages.

The 2020 State Of The City address is taking place next Tuesday, but it will be delivered a little differently this year.
The address will be live-streamed on the Dauphin and District Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.
Dauphin Chamber of Commerce executive director, Stephen Chychota says that mayor Allen Dowhan will be presenting the current and future state of the city, alongside a special guest.
“We are going to have a Livestream, go through our annual state of the city address hosted by the chamber of commerce. There, everyone can view and hear the Mayor’s announcement. We also have Chuck Davidson, President and CEO for the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce coming on and doing a presentation for us as well.”
With the annual lunch postponed due to COVID-19, Chychota encourages everyone to order from their favourite local restaurant and enjoy the event.

Manitoba is speeding up funding to municipalities to help with the economic challenges of COVID-19.
Municipal Relations Minister Rochelle Squires says the government is committed to getting a large portion of funding to municipalities as soon as possible.
City Manager Sharla Griffiths says it’s great to see the province commit to funding.
“It was great to see that the province values municipalities and our funding. We are not allowed to run deficits, so if the province had cut that funding after our budget was set, we would have to make up that funding somewhere else. So it’s great to have their commitment.”
The province is flowing 75 percent of its municipal operating grants directly to municipalities, with the remainder to be provided in the fall.
This builds on the province’s earlier commitment to maintaining funding levels to municipalities as promised in Budget 2020.

If you’re interested in applying at Assiniboine Community College (ACC), information sessions will now be conducted online.
Assiniboine’s recruitment team is usually on the road this time of year, providing in-person information. But with physical distancing restriction still in place in Manitoba, ACC recruiters will be connecting with prospective students from a distance — either by phone, emails, and an online webinar format.
Gabe Mercier is Director of Assiniboine’s Parkland Campus, and believes the virtual tours will be useful for prospective students who live outside of Dauphin.
“They can learn about our programming, campus life, and what we have available at the Parkland campus, without [physically] having to come on campus.”
The next virtual information session will be on the Assiniboine website, Monday at 3:00 p.m.
