Manitobans that have received a COVID-19 immunization can now access and print the information online.

Health and Seniors Care Minister Heather Stefanson made the announcement today and says in a press release, “We know many Manitobans have asked for their COVID-19 vaccination information from our public health offices. The new online portal will make this easier for all eligible Manitobans until a more permanent immunization card is available.”

Manitobans need a valid Manitoba Health registration card and a personal email address to access the information online.

Information about the COVID-19 vaccine received and dates of immunization will be provided for viewing and printing.

Those without internet access or don’t have a health card number can still access their information by calling their public health office.

In most cases, Manitobans will be able to request their online records about 48 hours after being immunized. The province says it could take up to seven days for the information to be available in some cases.

Stefanson notes a secure immunization card is in development and will be available later in the spring. She added that employers and other parties should not be requesting proof of immunization for any purpose.

A woman facing drug charges in connection to a Dauphin drug bust was sentenced in court earlier this week.

22-year-old Caitlin Richard was facing drug trafficking charges stemming from the incident last year.

On November 14th, Dauphin RCMP executed a search warrant at a home and seized 12 grams of crystal meth, cocaine, a large number of pills, cannabis, cash, and drug paraphernalia.

On Tuesday, Richard pled guilty to simple possession and was sentenced to time served in custody, and one year of probation.

A woman was airlifted to a Winnipeg hospital after a rollover crash in the Peguis area earlier this week.

A STARS air ambulance was dispatched around 10 a.m. on Tuesday to the emergency north of Hodgson.

A STARS spokesperson says local fire services extricated the 20-year-old woman from the vehicle after the rollover, before she was airlifted to HSC in Winnipeg.

There are no updates on her condition at this time.

Manitoba is moving closer to being able to open the vaccine appointment phone-lines to the general public — starting with Manitobans over the age of 95.

“I know this is something many Manitobans are looking forward to,” says Dr. Reimer, medical lead for the vaccine implementation task force, “and I’m looking forward to being able to announce next week that we’ll be opening up to elderly Manitobans.”

“I want to reiterate that Manitobans over 95 are not eligible (for vaccination) today, please do not call to book an appointment this week. But I will let you know next week when that changes.”

The province's toll-free phone number to book a vaccine appointment is 1-844-626-8222 (1-844-MAN-VACC).

The province urges the public to not call unless they are eligible for vaccination at this time. Eligibility criteria can be found here. 

Manitobans eligible for vaccinations at this time include community services workers and health-care workers whose work involves direct contact with patients, who meet the criteria outlined by the province.

A “vaccination calculator” set up by the province lets Manitobans see where they are in the priority line, based on their age and other factors. Click here to access the online tool.

Immunizations in Manitoba will be given out at “super sites”, pop-up clinics, and by Focused Immunization Teams (FITs). The province plans to expand the number of super sites in Manitoba up to 13 sites in April.

COVID immunizations in Manitoba will start to ramp back up with 15,210 doses of the Pfizer vaccine expected this week.

Manitoba has now recorded over 31,000 total cases of COVID-19 with 76 new cases announced today.

Only one death is being reported — a man in his 80s from the Winnipeg health region related to an outbreak at St. Boniface Hospital.

Since March, the province says there have been a total of 60 cases of COVID-19 in the Dauphin health district — with two deaths and one case still considered active.

Today’s new COVID-19 cases are from the following health districts:
• five cases in Interlake–Eastern health region
• 44 cases in the Northern health region
• two cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region
• two cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region
• 23 cases in the Winnipeg health region

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate in Manitoba is 5.9% provincially and 4.3% in Winnipeg. The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 31,007.

There are 1,555 active cases and 28,576 individuals who have recovered from COVID-19.

There are 89 people in hospital with active COVID-19 as well as 142 people in hospital who are no longer infectious but continue to require care (231 hospitalizations total).

There are 15 people in intensive care units with active COVID-19 as well as 13 people who are no longer infectious but continue to require critical care (28 ICU patients total).

The total number of deaths in people with COVID-19 is 876.

According to the province’s data, there are active cases in the following Parkland health districts: Dauphin (1), Swan River (0), Porcupine Mountain (4), Duck Mountain (0), Asessippi (13), and Agassiz Mountain (1). Brandon has 10 active cases. 

In the Interlake, the Eriksdale/Ashern health district has 13 active cases, while Fisher/Peguis has 27.

COVID-19 enforcement officers handed out a total of $30,590 worth of fines to Manitobans last week.

27 tickets were handed out last week – seven were for gatherings against health orders, and 16 were for not wearing a mask in indoor public places.

One of the $5,000 fines issued last week was to the Church Of God Restoration in Steinbach for holding services against public health orders.

Churches and all places of worship in Manitoba are now allowed to hold services, but they must be at 10% capacity with physical distancing measures in place for those not from the same household.

Last week, one ticket was issued for breaking the Federal Quarantine Act -- the individual was given a $1,750 ticket.

Although the Fusion Credit Union (FCU) board election isn’t until the end of March, the recruitment process for nominees is open.

FCU Chief Innovation Officer Michelle Mazurkewich says this election is significant because their election is done through a democratic voting process by the credit union members.

“Each of our members have the ability to use their voice to elect the candidate that they feel would be best suited for that position. We start the process by proactively recruiting potential candidates and really, for us, that increases our opportunity to bring new skill sets to the existing board of directors.”

Fusion’s focus right now is the impact of COVID-19 on the industry and members, both personal and business, and how to support them through the pandemic related challenges. Another focal point is technology and security, which includes some initiatives that will be released throughout the year.

Candidate nominations are open until midnight on February 28th. Following that, all potential candidates will be reviewed and interviewed.

The election is from March 22nd to April 2nd and will be done online and in-branch.

Mazurkewich says the election results will be announced at their AGM at the end of April.

“For this year, we four seats available, three three-year terms and one two-year term up and that is one seat within each of our four districts. So, no matter which branch or community you deal with, you have an opportunity to put your name forward.”

An Edmonton man is facing forgery charges after attempting to fill a prescription for a type of cough medication in Portage la Prairie.

On Friday, Feb. 12, RCMP were called to a pharmacy on Saskatchewan Avenue in Portage la Prairie.

Officers were told that a 30-year-old man had dropped off a prescription to be filled for cough medication containing codeine, and that the prescription had been forged.

RCMP were informed the man had tried to fill the prescription at another local pharmacy, and left the store in an SUV.

Officers located the vehicle and arrested Badal Kaahin Kaafi from Edmonton, Alberta.

A search of the vehicle found two bottles of the same medication dispensed at a pharmacy in Winnipeg.

RCMP seized two bottles of cough medication containing codeine, a highly addictive opioid.

Kaafi is facing charges including possession of an opioid for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a forged document.

He will appear in court at a later date.

An extreme cold warning has been lifted in many parts of southern Manitoba today, after being in place for about 10 days.

That period of time saw extreme overnight temperatures around -50 in many parts of the province, with frigid daytime temperatures.

A much more favourable forecast for the Parkland shows the temperatures progressively warming up throughout the week.

A high of plus 4 is forecasted in Dauphin to start next week.
