There is no garbage pickup in the City of Dauphin this week, as it's the first off-week of the new system.

Mayor Eric Irwin says it's a bit of a change but it will help with recycling as well as Dauphin's bottom line.

"Our garbage cans are about three times the size of any in most communities. They well accommodate -- if you recycle a lot, or you recycle everything you can recycle -- you know, they'll hold about eight bags of garbage so if you recycle completely then there's no problem with having two-week pickup for garbage."

According to assistant administrative officer Sharla Griffith's report at Monday's council meeting, in week one of the City of Dauphin's new waste pickup system, just under 50 residences didn't have their garbage picked up because their recycling wasn't out. That's out of 3,000 properties.
