The Dauphin Fire Department had to fight smoke coming out of a house on Davidson Avenue E in Dauphin.
The fire department responded just before 12:40 along with the RCMP and an ambulance.
Upon arrival, firefighters were told by neighbours that there may be someone in the basement.
Firefighters entered the home and located the fire in the basement, after an initial knockdown, they searched both the basement and the main floor but found no occupants.
The fire was brought under control quickly but crews remained on scene for approximately 2.5 hours to ensure there was no chance of re-ignition.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner with assistance from DFD and the RCMP.
There are no estimates on damages at this time.
