It is very early in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League season but there is no rookie scorer that has been more efficient than Gabriel Bugeaud of the Dauphin Kings.

In fact, there are only three rookies in the entire league that has been as efficient. With three goals and two assists to start the campaign, Gabriel is tied for the rookie scoring lead. Bugeaud, of Terrebonne, QC, had quite the debut with Dauphin as he scored the game-winner in the team's first win of the season, a convincing 7-1 romp over the Swan Valley Stampeders on opening night.

Gabriel has blistering speed which he pairs with a great shot, but not even he expected this production to begin his junior career.

"I didn't expect as much as this, with that said, I am very confident in my abilities," said Bugeaud. "I believe I can make an impact at this level, it's just now about being consistent and keeping up with my day-to-day habits."

Consistency is a word that is used a lot in the sports world. Teams have to be consistent to win and for Gabriel, his journey to being a consistent player starts away from the rink.

"It starts by having good habits at home, eating well and going to bed at a reasonable time," offered Bugeaud. "When it comes to at the rink, it's about being early and being ready to go the second we step on the ice. I strive to be as consistent as I can and it's an exciting process."

Gabriel came over from the Notre Dame Hounds program, where he played the past two seasons. In 40 games last year, Bugeaud scored 11 times while adding 22 assists and he also had 24 penalty minutes. Bugeaud will look to keep it going on Friday night when the Kings welcome the Neepawa Titans to Credit Union Place at 7:30. Gabriel has enjoyed playing in Credit Union Place and he's once again looking forward to seeing Kings fans on Friday night.

Dauphin has the chance to win their fifth game of the campaign.

"We have some amazing fans, it's always more enjoyable playing in front of big crowds because they bring a lot of energy," said Bugeaud.

Get to know Gabriel:

Do you have any siblings? I have two younger brothers, we grew up fairly close. We played a bunch of sports together growing up.

What kind of music do you like and who is your favourite artist? I like a little bit of country and hip-hop, I'm listening to Drake's new album right now and it's really good. I also really like Morgan Wallen and Zach Bryan, they're putting out some great tunes.

If you could travel anywhere with anyone, where would it be and why? I would want to go on a golf trip with my dad and brother. Somewhere hot.

Are you a good golfer? I used to play a lot of tournaments growing up, but I sort of got it away from it over the past couple of years.

He's off to a great start with his new team and Gabriel Bugeaud is primed for an all-star season. You can hear Gabriel's full conversation with Darnell Duff during the Dauphin Kings Power Play Show on Friday afternoon just after 4:00 p.m.
