The Challenger Soccer Camp travels around the world teaching young aspiring players the ropes of the game as they look to develop.
Last week, they were in Toronto, and this week, they made a stop in Dauphin. Over 20 kids played all week long starting on Monday at Vermillion Sportsplex. The camp featured coaches from England, Ireland, and Scotland, and they taught the kids drills and the players also took part in a mini World Cup.
It was every day from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Jessica Myhre organized the camp and she's thrilled with how it went.
"It was a fantastic week. Having this camp is going to help the kids stay excited about playing the game," added Myhre. "They were able to develop their skills without having to go to the big city or anything. The coaches were great with the kids and we can't wait for next year's camp."
The coaches didn't have to stay in hotels while they were here. Carla Prokopchuk and her family took in three of the coaches for the week. Ryan, Sheri Gardner, and her family stepped up to take in the other coach. That allowed the coaches to experience the best of what this area has to offer after the camp ended each day.
"The coaches had a really good week with their host families, and we're super thankful that both families stepped up to bring them in," concluded Myhre.
This week officially concludes the Dauphin Soccer Association's season. Stay tuned for details on when the next Challenger Soccer Camp will take place. For now, the camp moves to the Flin Flon area and Langenburg, Saskatchewan.

Verna Vanrobaeys lives out at Dauphin Beach and she plays most of her golf at the Dauphin Lake Golf Club.
She's had a ton of great shots at the course in the past, but none were greater than yesterday. On the par 3, 9th hole, Verna's ball disappeared into the bottom of the cup for a hole-in-one.
It was her first ever hole-in-one at the course.
"It was kind of unbelievable. I didn't even really believe it at first, my girlfriends watched it and they said it went in," said Vanrobaeys. "I didn't think I hit the ball very well. We went up in the cart and it was in the hole."
"I was super excited. I don't like that hole in the first place and to get an ace on it, it's pretty awesome," continued Vanrobaeys.
Verna's other hole-in-one was in Texas a few years ago.
She'll get back at it tomorrow as she takes part in the Home Hardware Women's Open at the Dauphin Lake Golf Club.

Last season, George King was traded to the Melfort Mustangs of the SJHL for Future Considerations.
Earlier this week, the Kings' received those Future Considerations. The first player they got is Parker Fofonoff. He had 15 points in 62 games last season with Melfort.
In 2017-18, with the Prince Albert Mintos, had 38 points in 53 games.
"He's a heavy guy, he's not the biggest, but he's thick and has great speed," said Doug Hedley, Head Coach, and General Manager. "He's a very good special team guy. He was one of Melfort's top 2001 players last year. We feel with three years of eligibility here, he's going to be very good for our organization."
Dauphin also picked up a second player out of the deal, Braeden Young. He played in 41 regular-season games last year with Melfort and he had seven points (4G). He also cracked the lineup for 11 playoff games and he added three points (1G).
"He's a very hard worker and he's very good in the dressing room," added Hedley. "He has a very good skill set, he sees the ice very well and makes some really good plays. I know he's working on being more explosive. I know he would have been a top-six guy in Melfort this year, so we're excited to have him."
On top of Fofonoff and Young, Dauphin has made several other moves this off-season as they prepare for the 2019-20 campaign. A couple of big ones included the signing of WHL veteran, Baron Thompson. The organization also added Noah Basarab and he had 28 goals between Swan Valley and Selkirk last season.
With under two months until main camp, Doug is looking forward to getting things going.
"We've filled some needs. Parker and Braeden can both play in the middle. I think right now, we're looking at some very good competition at every position," said Hedley. "We should have legit, very, very good depth throughout the lineup."
Stay tuned for the Kings' 2019-20 broadcast schedule with the Voice of the Kings', Darnell Duff, in the coming weeks.

The Parkway Lanes 11U baseball team based out of Dauphin is heading to Niverville. They'll take part in the "A" Provincial Championships that start tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.
14 players will represent Dauphin at the tournament. Nine players are first-year while they also picked up two players from Swan River that are second-year players.
Ralph Zurba is the team's Head Coach and he's looking forward to the weekend.
"My thought going into the event is have fun. Some of these kids have never even won a medal in their life, and to win the regionals was amazing," said Zurba. "We're going to give it our best shot and wherever the chips may fall, they will."
They earned their spot by beating Grandview back on June 23, 4-3, in a back and forth battle.
First up is Portage at 9:00 a.m. That's followed by a game against Pembina Hills at 2:00 p.m. They wrap up their round-robin on Saturday morning against Niverville, at 9:00 a.m.
Although they don't know much about any team they will play, Ralph is confident in the squad.
"Nine out of our 10 wins this year have been comeback victories, I believe in these kids," said Zurba. "I've never given up on them. That's also one thing I've asked them, to not give up on me. I plan on starting my best pitchers and we'll see how it goes, everyone is so excited."
After the round-robin, the top two teams from each pool of three will advance to the playoffs. The 3rd place team takes on the 6th place while the 4th place team challenges the 5th place team. The top two teams overall will earn a bye to the semi-finals.

Only two players did enough to beat Russell's Jay Thiesen out on the links today.
Thiesen was solid with a 2 under, 69. He had five birdies and three bogies to sit in a tie for sixth heading into tomorrow's final round.
"I putt the ball a lot better than yesterday, I struggled a lot in round one," said Thiesen after the round. "I kept the ball in play a lot more which was the big difference."
After shooting a 77 yesterday, Jay will enter the final round eight strokes back of Mike Tibbs, who fired a 3 under, 68 today.
"I just hope to have another solid round and keep myself close," said Thiesen. "I need to make even more putts and we'll see what happens."
After tomorrow's final round, the top 12 golfers will earn a spot to the National Mid-Amateur Championships from August 20-23 in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Being tied for sixth, one more good round could book Jay his ticket to the Summit Hill Golf & Country Club.
"That was my goal coming into this tournament. It's in the back of my head a little bit," said Thiesen. "I've been pretty comfortable the last couple of days, I'm not putting too much pressure on myself."
Chad Facey and Tyler Lacquette also stepped up their games today. Chad and Tyler both shot 2 over, 73 today. Chad finds himself in a tie for 25th at 11 over while Lacquette is in a tie for 31st at 12 over.

The Swan Valley Stampeders have added some size to their back end.
The team acquired 2000 born, blue-liner Brady Morrison from the Flin Flon Bombers for Future Considerations.
Brady split last season between the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the BCHL and the Flin Flon Bombers of the SJHL. During that time, he had three assists.
"I think Brady is just one of those players that every team needs to survive," added Geoff Grimwood, Head Coach & General Manager. "He's not a guy that's going to come in and put up 100 points, but he's very reliable. He works hard and he's a good guy in the dressing room."
"He's also a right-hand shot and our d-core is really left-handed heavy right now, so he helps balance things," he added. "We expect him to come in and quietly do a good job for us."
In other moves this off-season, Swan Valley added Mike Wong from the Melville Millionaires. He had six points last year with the SJHL club.
After losing a handful of solid veterans last year, Grimwood is still in the progress of adding some veteran presence to the lineup.
"When a team has exceptional success like last year, there is likely some turnover and that's what happened with us," said Grimwood. "We're trying to pick up some good veteran players that can come in and help us right away. We’re comfortable with our younger players.”
In his first year with the team, Grimwood is using last year's success as a tool to get players to Swan River.
"Winning is always the best recruiter, kids want to play for a winning team," added Grimwood. "We're certainly selling last season as a positive moving forward. It'll be a new team this year that has to write their own history, but we can definitely build off last season."
