After two seasons with the McCreary Mountaineers high school hockey team, Bradley Roncin is making his way to Alberta.
Roncin has signed on to play Jr. A hockey with the Cold Lake Wings in the fall. They play in the Greater Metro Jr. A Hockey League based in Ontario.
"It's so awesome. My main goal growing up was to play Jr. A hockey, so it means a lot to me," said Roncin. "I was talking to one of my teachers at school and he has a lot of contacts. I ended up getting in touch with Cold Lake and I guess the rest was history."
Roncin led the Mountaineers in between the pipes this past season. He racked up 15 wins, in what was McCreary's most successful season to date as they continue to develop within the Westman High School Hockey League.
As he's set to make the jump up to play junior hockey, Roncin is ready for any challenge he may face.
"It's definitely going to be tough at first because a lot of the players are going to be really skilled," added Roncin. "I think I'll be able to adjust as I practice more, I'm pretty confident in myself."
Cold Lake heavily struggled last season. They went 4-37-2-2 and had a league-worst goal differential of minus 169. Tasked with stopping as many pucks as possible, Bradley is hoping to change the Wings' fate from one year ago.
"I just want to be a good team player and obviously, I want to stop as many pucks as I can," he added.
Bradley will head to Cold Lake late next month for main camp.

Many of the best cyclists in the province were at the Provincial Championships on July 21 at Bison Butte.
In the 17U age group is where you could find Dauphin's, Ryder Chetyrbuk. On top of the 17U age group is also where you could find the Dauphinite.
Ryder has come back to Dauphin with a gold medal from the event.
"I was really excited to be in first place," said Chetyrbuk.
In preparation for the event, Ryder's been a busy man. He rides his back three to four times per week.
"I've been riding a lot at the Northgate Trails and also in Clear Lake," he added.
The first-place finish continued Ryder's successful season on his bike. Back in May, Ryder finished in second place at the Morden Schinkenvad Cup #2.
Ryder won't take any time off. He'll compete on August 11 when the Manitoba Cycling Association makes a stop in Dauphin. That will be the first official event at the new track up on the hill.
"The trails are so awesome, I'm really excited that all of the other racers are going to be able to see the track," concluded Chetyrbuk. "I want to make sure I continue improving my time."

The tournament starts at 9:00 a.m. and its $125/player or $500/team. That includes your meal, a chance at prizes and your round.
"Registrations are going really well right now. We're not quite full, but we want to remind people to not wait until the last minute," said Christian Laughland. "It's going to be a great day and the weather is supposed to be fantastic."
Already five "Celebrities" have been announced. Jayce Hawryluk, Colby Robak, Ryan Pulock, Tanner Kaspick, and Travis Sanheim will all play. Micheal Ferland has dropped out of the event.
If you haven't played in this event before, or even if you have, you'll have the chance to play with Jayce, Colby, Ryan, Tanner, or Travis. Earlier this month, the Swan Valley Stampeders completed a blockbuster trade.
The team traded Matthew Osadick to the Merritt Centennials for Vincent Duplessis, Frazer Dodd, and Justin Plett.
Matthew was one of the Stamps' leading scorers last year. He had 63 points in the regular season and added 18 more in the playoffs.
"Trading Matthew was not something we planned to do. Talking to Matt and his family, he wanted to go to the BCHL, so we granted his wishes," said Geoff Grimwood, Stampeders Head Coach & General Manager. "He's a great guy, a great player and we know he will do great work with Merritt."
Vincent Duplessis played 20 games last season with Merritt. He had a 3.21 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage.
"He's gone through some injuries which probably prevented him from being a number one last year," said Grimwood. "We think he's more than capable of coming into our roster this year and being a really good number one goalie in the league."
Frazer Dodd, from Hazelton, BC, had 13 points in 35 games last year with Merritt. In the 2017-18 season, he put up four points in seven games with the Centennials.
"He's another veteran player that has good size and he plays a full 200-feet," said Grimwood. "He will provide us with good leadership and we think he can play anywhere on our top two lines."
Plett, from Abbotsford, BC, had seven points in 40 games last year with Weyburn. In his most successful Midget season, Plett had 58 points with the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in the 2017-18 season. He also had eight playoff points in seven games that year.
"He struggled a little bit in Weyburn last year, but we're very confident he's going to come in and find his offensive touch," said Grimwood.
With just over a month left until the team holds their main camp, Grimwood is liking how the team is shaping up.
"We feel really good about things. We like our returning group, so we don't really want to make many moves," concluded Grimwood. "It's now about making sure we have the right young guys at our camp and it's going to be a good fight for spots. We're all looking forward to getting things going here."

Later this summer, Brandon's Austin Dobrescu will make a trip to Winnipeg to play his first-ever professional golf event. The 22-year-old has earned one of six Sponsor Exemptions for the 2019 Players Cup, which is a part of the Mackenzie Tour.
Austin will tee it up with golfers that are only two steps away from playing on the PGA Tour.
"Yeah, I was just super excited to find out. It's been on my radar for the past couple of weeks because I've had some good showings this summer," said Dobrescu. "I'm really excited and thankful that the Players Cup committee felt I would be a good fit for the tournament. It's going to be a good experience for my first pro event."
Day one of the tournament at the Southwood Golf & Country Club takes place on August 15. The purse for the tournament will be $200,000. The Brandonite won't be eligible for any of that money, but he is ready to compete to the best of his abilities.
"I guess at this point I've played a lot of big events, so even though it's a pro event, I'm probably just going to play it like another round," he added. "I'll have my dad on the bag and I'll just take it as a first experience."
"I definitely haven't played up to my ability, even though I've been doing well," he said. "If I can go out there and eliminate bogies and make as many birdies as I can, I think I can do something good. Making the cut would be great, but I'm kind of looking further than that. I hope to do well enough to play in more events like that going forward."
Leading up to the event, Austin plans to play Southwood a few times to prepare.
Austin earned the Sponsors Exemption thanks to his second-place finish at the Manitoba Amateur at the Quarry Oaks Golf Course. He will replace Colwyn Abgrall who is set to play in the United States Amateur Championships.
Prior to even finishing second at Quarry Oaks, Austin made a bang to begin the season. He won the Manitoba Match Play Championships, over Colwyn.
"It's definitely been my best summer so far for golf," said Dobrescu. "I just have to keep building off my success."
Before the Players Cup, Austin will play in the Canadian Men's Amateur Championships from August 5-8 in Nova Scotia. After missing the cut at last year's event, Austin is looking forward to getting back at it.
"I want to put my self in a good position for the final two days," he said. "I just need to eliminate any big numbers and make birdies. I'm looking forward to seeing how I match up against some of the best amateurs in the world."

An adult bike clinic is set for this Saturday at the Northgate Trails, which is at the Selo Festival Site. It will be from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and you will learn exactly what it takes to ride the new beautiful trails.
The first three hours will be instruction and the final hour, you'll put what you learned to the test on the trails.
"The Manitoba Cycling Association is sending out one of their former professional cyclists and she'll be teaching basic mountain biking skills," said Chris Wolfenden. "It's definitely a good way to learn skills and see how the trails look as well."
It's just $15 and there are already 12 people registered. There's room for just three more cyclists.
"It's a pretty good opportunity, the coach coming in is really good at what she does," concluded Wolfenden.
If you want to register, email brenda.gregory@me.com. You can pay the $15 on Saturday.

Erickson's, Bobbi Uhl is spending her week with some of the best women's Amateur golfers in the world. The 19-year-old is playing in the Canadian Women's Amateur Golf Championships, at the Red Deer Golf & Country Club.
Bobbi's first-round tee-time is this afternoon at 2:09. She will play with Elizabeth Moon from Florida and Emily Romancew from Quebec. The four-day tournament offers a cut after day two.
"I'm just trying to post two rounds in the 70's. That's kind of my goal for the first two rounds," said Uhl. "I think that should be good to make the cut, but who knows how everyone will play. I'm just going to do the best I can do and we'll see how it goes."
Leading up to her first-round time, Bobbi knows what she's capable of.
"I've been shooting in the 70's the last few times I've played, so I have confidence that I can make the cut," she added. "I just have to stay focused and play safe. A big thing is taking my medicine if I hit one where I shouldn't."
The course will play to 6492 yards this week, which includes a very tough par 4, 18th hole that is 429 yards. Eight of the 10 par 4's overall are less than 400 yards. The par 3's on the course total 655 yards.
Bobbi knows she'll have an opportunity to make some solid shots, but she knows being cautious is what's needed.
"It just depends on where the pins are," said Uhl. "If the pins are hidden or tucked right over the bunker or water, I just need to play to the middle of the green. It's all about not putting myself in a bad situation."
Whatever ends up going down this week, Uhl will never forget her time in Red Deer.
"It's really exciting to play in this event, it's going to be a true test," concluded Uhl. "The course is definitely tough, but it's fair. It's going to be fun."

Back on April 14, Tiger Woods took down the field at Augusta National to win the Masters. Over the weekend at the Minnedosa Golf & Country Club, another "Green Jacket" was up for grabs. The club hosted their second annual Minnedosa Masters.
The winner would earn the jacket and a free trip to Las Vegas. Dozens of top-notch golfers from around the province entered the tournament, but just one can say they won it, and that's Brandon's Kolby Day.
Kolby, who primarily plays at the Shilo Country Club, fired a 70, to win the tournament by one stroke.
His group started on the third hole and it was a perfect start as Day birdied it. After a bogey on 6 and a double bogey on 7, Day turned it around. He made birdie on 9 and fired a 3-under on the back nine.
"It took me a while to really feel my swing, but I definitely did on the back nine. I was hitting good shots and making some putts," said Day after winning the title. "It was my first time ever playing in the event. The golf course did a fantastic job of hosting. To win the "Green Jacket", it's quite the feeling. I'm pretty stoked."
Day beat Nelson Leask by one stroke and Ross Sheard by two strokes.
"I didn't think 70 was going to be enough at the start, there were some really good players," said Day. "Some weather rolled in, so I guess the conditions got the best of some people."
When it comes to playing in next year's event, there's no doubt about it.
"I'll for sure be back next year to defend my title," he concluded.
