The Dauphin Clippers varsity girls volleyball team are Zone Champions.

They were in Swan River today and cruised past the Tigers in straight sets. 

The scores were 25-18, 25-9 and 25-15.

Dauphin will now play in the Interzones on Thursday in Neepawa. If the team wins that game, they’ll be going to the Provincial Championships.

Zach Grouette has been busy between the pipes ever since he started playing hockey.

But, I don't think the Dauphinite has ever been as busy as he has been lately.

The 17-year-old is coming off a 62 save performance this past Sunday against Pembina Valley. Last week, Grouette made 50 saves in a win against the Thrashers in Winnipeg. Earlier this year, Grouette made 70 saves against the Thrashers.

What's his record during those games when he's been asked to go above and beyond? 2-1. 

It's safe to say that Zach has faced a ton of rubber this season. He's sure making himself look great as well with all the saves he's making, and at times, they're highlight reel saves.

"It's honestly a pretty exciting time right now," added Grouette. "I've been working really hard right now. Our team in general as well. Everyone is really buying in and we're winning battles and scoring goals. It's been a lot of fun this past week and a half."

The season didn't neccesarily start off the best for Zach and the Rangers as a team. Grouette was 2-5 to start the season. Despite the tough record, Zach made at least 35 saves in six of his first seven games. As for all players and goalies, the road to success is all about preparation.

"My preparation was definitely off at the start of the season," said Grouette. "We had a new group so I wasn't getting the right amount of time to get ready. Now, I have plenty of time to get prepared and it just helps me get in a good frame of mind. Preparation going forward is key to any success I'll have."

Overall this season, Grouette has averaged over 45 shots per game against.

"It's been tiring at times facing all of the shots, but that's what I'm here for," said Grouette. "I'm here to stop pucks. My goal is to stop every puck that comes my way."

Favourite memory of the season so far? That's really a no-brainer.

"Definitely beating the Thrashers in overtime," said Grouette. "That was super special."

For the most part, Zach has been rock solid all season long. This week, he's been recognized for all his hard work. The 17-year-old from Dauphin has been named the CCM Hockey Player of the Week!

Sure Zach only played in one game, but it's a game most goaltenders dream of having. He turned away 62 shots on Sunday in the team's win against Pembina Valley. If 62 saves weren't enough, Zach also chipped in offensively. He had an assist on the game-winning goal that Jaegar Lapointe scored early in the first period. 

"It really does feel great to be named Player of the Week this week," said Grouette. "I have to give credit to my team because I couldn't do it without them. It really is a privilege to be named POW."

"I'm just really happy and I wasn't expecting this," he added. "There is a lot of super skilled hockey players in this league. Honestly, it was a shock that I was named this."

Grouette will be between the pipes once again tonight. The Rangers play the Yellowhead Chiefs. Zach did not play in the team's first meeting between the two clubs. Thanks to his recent performance, the 17-year-old has boatloads of confidence.

"I definitely have some extra confidence right now heading into tonight," said Grouette. "I'm looking forward to the challenge."

The Parkland Midget Rangers have been on a roll lately.

Dauphin's Garrett Hrechka is also on a roll... a crazy roll. 

Garrett and the team have won two straight games. Last week they beat the Winnipeg Thrashers. This past weekend, the team beat the Pembina Valley Hawks.

"You know, we obviously started off really slow," said Hrechka. "But, we're really starting to get our legs under us now."

"We have a pretty young team, so they had to get used to the league," he added. "They're used to the intensity now and they know they have to play fast. For me, I just needed to find the back of the net to get some confidence. I'm not usually a goal scorer, but It's always nice to do it."

Hrechka's latest hot streak started last weekend. That was when he scored the overtime winner against the Thrashers. It was his second goal of the game.

"It felt like a dream honestly," added Hrechka. "I dream about those types of goals in overtime against a good team. It wouldn't have happened without Jayden Jubenvill though, I won the draw to him and then he got me the puck."

Scoring those two goals and the overtime winner was just part one. Hrechka lit it up this past weekend. He scored three times against the Pembina Valley Hawks.

"It definitely felt pretty special because it was my first ever hat-trick," said Hrechka. "My linemates were awesome that game. It all starts in the defensive end and that's where we were working really hard so we created chances going the other way."

Hrechka and the Rangers will now face another tough test tonight. They welcome the Yellowhead Chiefs (10-4-2) to Credit Union Place. Earlier this season, the Rangers lost to the Chiefs 5-1.

"I honestly think we can beat them, we're pretty confident in our abilities right now," added Hrechka. "That win against Pembina really pumped up all the boys. We have to really lock down defensively. We're still giving up way too many chances, so we have to limit their scoring chances. Offensively, we feel that we're good."

Last week she was golden in Swan River and this past weekend, Dauphin’s Lane Prokopowich was on top again. 

Curling with her team from Winnipeg, Lane and the rest of the foursome dominated the Petersfield junior bonspiel. 

The domination included going a perfect 5-0.

In the round-robin, the team beat their opponents by a combined 15 points. 

Lane and the foursome then won their semifinal, 3-2. They then won the finals, 4-2.

The team will now look to make it three straight weekend wins when they head to Brandon this weekend.

Almost $160,000 was raised during Barry Trotz Day on August 22 right here in Dauphin.

The Dauphin Clippers hockey team has now won five straight games.

The club beat Hamiota earlier today, 3-2.

After scoring four goals yesterday, Riley Hammond got on the scoresheet again today. He had one goal. 

Noah Wiens and Logan Conrad had the teams other markers.

The Clippers return to Credit Union Place on November 18 at 7:30.

Colton Miner was rock solid in net and the Grand Plains Atom Hawks scored plenty in an 8-0 win earlier today against Swan River #1.

Owen Sigvaldason scored twice and Zak Fillion once in the first as the Hawks led 3-0 after the first. 

Grady Turetsky, Kingston Stirling and Landyn Garton scored one each in the second to extend the Hawks lead to 6-0.

Both Landyn and Zak scored one more each in the final period in the big win.

It was a fantastic weekend for the McCreary Peewee Mustangs. 

They were busy with three games and they won them all. 

On Saturday morning, Wyatt Klassen had four goals and Chase Glover shut the door as the team thumped Virden, 11-0.

Later in the day, it was the Brady Turko and Ryan Gower show. Both had eight points as the club dominated Elkhorn, 9-2.

Earlier today, Brody Fayant scored the winner and an empty netter as the Mustangs beat Minnedosa, 7-5.

Their defence was solid, their offence did enough, and the Blue Bombers are Calgary bound!

The Blue & Gold beat the Riders earlier today, 23-18 in the Western Semifinal. 

Drew Wolitarsky and Andrew Harris both scored a TD and Kevin Fogg had a massive interception in the win. 

The Bombers never allowed more then six points in a quarter and their defence locked down late. 

They’ll now head to Calgary for the West Final next weekend.

The Parkland Midget Rangers are rolling!

After beating the Winnipeg Thrashers last weekend, the Rangers dominated Pembina Valley today in Roblin, 5-1.

The Rangers opened up a 4-0 lead before the Hawks even scored. 

Garrett Hrechka had a fantastic game. He scored three times. Jaegar Lapointe also continued his all star type of season. 

He scored twice. 

Zach Grouette was a brick wall for Parkland. He made 62 saves. 

Parkland welcomes Yellowhead to town on Tuesday.

For the second time in three games, the Dauphin Kings were shutout.

This time, 3-0 against the Virden Oil Capitals. 

It just wasn't Dauphin's night as the Oil Caps played a very strong defensive game. 

After a scoreless opening 20, Virden opened the scoring just 55 seconds into the second. 

That score stood up heading into the third.

Just over four minutes in, Kolten Kanaski scored his second of the game to put the Oil Caps up 2-0. 

Virden would score into an empty net to seal it late in the contest. 

The Kings are now 10-10-1. They return to the ice on Wednesday against Winnipeg at Credit Union Place.
