Brody Claeys was born here in Dauphin, and then was raised in Ste.Rose and has been playing competitive hockey for as long as he can remember.
Now, the 20-year-old will be heading to play hockey in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for the Alaska Anchorage Seawolf who play in Division One.
"It's been exactly what I've been working toward," said Claeys. "Since my second year of midget, this was my goal, to get to that next step, and I am super excited to get there."
Claeys has been playing Junior A hockey for the past few years, including beginning his Junior A career with the OCN Blizzard in 2013. He first got full exposure of being a starting goalie one year later when he played 38 games for the Blizzard and went 11-21. After four games in the 2015-2016 season, he was traded to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs who play in the BCHL.
"I asked for a trade to BC, because I felt it would make my goal of making it to the next level that much more possible." said Claeys.
Claeys played 76 games for the Bulldogs in two seasons, and compiled a 24-40 record which included a .908 save percentage this past season.
For the summer, Claeys will work out in Winnipeg, and then head to his new home in August.
