They're just a first-year club, but that did not stop them from doing special things on the provincial stage.

The Parkland Power is a fastpitch team that practices out of Dauphin with teams in the U13 and U17 age groups. Over the weekend they competed in provincial events in Brandon and Morden.

U13 in Brandon:

The Power came out of the gates firing as they won their first two games and were outstanding defensively and on the mound giving up just a single run. The Power moved forward to beat the Interlake Maroons, 5-1, in the semi-finals.

Their great run at the event came to a close with a narrow 16-15 loss in the final against the Central Charge. It was an outstanding weekend on the field for the team as they went 4-1 in their round-robin, finishing in first place.

Chayse Paradis was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player while Greg Boden and Stephen Paradis were the team's coaches.

"The expectation was to drain the tank over the weekend and compete in every game," said Boden. "The girls played to their potential and we met our goal. We came up short by a single run in the final, but the outcome of the final game was not indicative of how well the girls played and how much they embraced the experience and opportunity."

U17 in Morden:

Coached by Phil Fafard, the team finished in fifth place. Their final loss was by two runs as they came up just short of playing for a medal.

"Our team competed very well and we were an out away from playing for a medal," said Fafard. "Our girls have so much to be proud of, they worked so hard, and represented the Parkland so well."
