Some of the best volleyball teams in the world will embark on Winnipeg next September for the 2019 NORCECA Men's Continental Volleyball Championship.

The event will welcome senior men's national teams from the North, Central America, and Carribean Volleyball Confederation. The event is played every two years and typically has eight teams play in the event.

Canada finished third at the 2017 edition and they won gold in 2015.

"Yeah, we're very excited about this, it's been a while since we've hosted international men's matches here," said John Blacher, Executive Director for Volleyball Manitoba. "We're really excited to host the top senior men's teams in the NORCECA zone. It's going to be great for the City of Winnipeg."

The matches will take place from September 2-7 at the University of Winnipeg's Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium. That's located right in the middle of Winnipeg.

Right now, the Canadian men's team is ranked sixth in the world. The U.S. men's team is ranked #2 in the world and they will likely be at the event.

Other team's that are ranked high up in the world include Cuba (#16) and Mexico (#19). A full list of entered teams will be available closer to the tournament.

"If you're a volleyball fan, or even if you're not, this is going to be an extremely exciting event to watch," said Blacher. It's going to showcase some of the best teams in the world. We wanted to do this to promote Team Canada, volleyball and showcase the sport and city."

Stay tuned for more details as the event approaches.
