Minimum-wage earners will see their hourly pay increase next month for the first time since 2015.
Beginning Oct. 1, the minimum wage will increase from $11 an hour to $11.15 an hour.
The legislated increase has drawn criticism from both sides of the minimum-wage debate — including small businesses that would have preferred a freeze and labour advocates who argue a 15-cent increase still does not provide a living wage.
The increase is part of legislation introduced by the government in May that indexes minimum wage increases to inflation each year, but also includes a provision under which government can freeze the minimum wage in the event of an economic downturn.

Culture Days in Dauphin begins this morning. Culture Days is a collaborative 3 days that thrives on public participation and lasts until Sunday. One of the organisers Jean-Louis Guillas talks about what is special about this event.
“Culture Days is a national program that encourages all kinds of professional and amateur and community based cultural groups to put on events that are free, participatory, or behind the scenes sort of events. The overarching goal is to have people create participate and share in culture.”
The weekend begins today with the Monument unveiling of Colonel Barker at CN Park at 11am. On Saturday Dauphin’s Yardfringe, begins at 3:30 at the Watson Art Center. Bike riders travel to different performances throughout the city, there is also an open mic nigh at the Old Firehall at 8pm. On Sunday Bike to the Bronze Age begins at 10:15 in the morning. The activity tours all of over to Dauphin’s different monuments. From 1 to 3 it’s the Toddler Music and Dance Festival at the Watson Art Center.

Manitobans are being asked to give some feedback in an online survey to the provincial government on some very important issues moving into the 2018 budget.
The survey can be found at www.manitobansmakingchoices.ca.
Along with the survey, the provincial government plans out their open house pre-budget consultations.
Brad Michaleski, Local MLA, provides some details on his pre-budget meeting.
“It will be at the Ste. Rose Curling Rink Lounge on October 19 starting at 7:00,” noted Michaleski.
Finance Minister, Cameron Friesen, is hosting a pre-budget consultation on October 16, at the Lions’ Den in the Parkland Regional Complex starting at 7:30 in the evening. The public is welcome to attend.
