The Town of Swan River is currently handling severe overland flooding after the community was declared under a Local State of Emergency over the weekend.

A 1.8 km long ice jam continues to be a concern for residents of Duncan Crescent and other low lying areas of the town.

The Town of Swan River says additional heavy equipment was brought in yesterday to assist the equipment that is currently working to tray and break up the jam.

Personnel are regularly monitoring the river levels on Duncan Crescent and at locations further upstream on the Swan River while property owners and volunteers work on maintaining and improving existing dykes.

It is advised that residents avoid threatened areas including the Legion Park area as the river bank is unstable and ice conditions are dangerous and unpredictable.
