The $13.1 million dollar funding increase for Kindergarten to Grade 12 schools in Manitoba next year may fall short for one school division.

The announcement, made last week by Education and Training Minister Ian Wishart, represents an overall one per cent increase in funding for the 2017-18 school year.

However, Brandon School Division Chairperson Kevan Sumner says BSD may fair slightly better than one per cent.

But with the number of students enrolling, their 2.3 per cent increase, won't be enough.

" We're anticipating our enrollment growth to be in line with what we've experienced in most years over the past decade. So, probably close to 200 more students coming into our school division next year. By the time you factor that in, plus the increasing in operating expenses and salaries and our collective agreement going up three per cent next year, this two per cent increase is going to fall short."

The $13.1 million dollar boost for public schools, adds to the now, $1.3 billion dollar budget per year for Manitoba schools.
