They aren't getting a full year this time, but pulse crops are still getting their day in the sun.
Last year was the International Year of the Pulse; today is the second annual Global Pulse Day.
Pulse farmer and Chair of Pulse Canada Lee Moats says they're coming off a fantastic year of activities.
He says today is about raising awareness about pulse crops.
"With a view that consumers right around the world could really benefit from the goodness that pulse crops provide."
Moats says there's a lot of effort going into developing some market diversity for pulse crops.
He says they depend on a few large markets for pulse sales, and although they support their traditional markets, he's hoping consumers will eat pulses in non-traditional ways.
Moats also says faba beans may be the pulse of the future for areas that aren't well suited to growing peas and lentils.
