$134,000 raised and a world record set. Not a bad 62nd Manitoba Threshermen's Reunion & Stampede.
Elliot Sims with Harvesting Hope says 139 threshing machines were operating simultaneously on July 31st in Austin, Manitoba. He says the oldest machine was over 125 years old.
"148 threshing teams started the attempt, but only 139 were able to thresh simultaneously for 15 minutes."
Sims says in total it works out to about 3,900 inches of cylinder capacity for threshing, powered by over 6,100 horsepower of tractors and steam engines.
The money raised is being split between the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and the Manitoba Agricultural Museum.
"$67,000 of that will be going to the museum. $67,000 will also be going to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. And we're quite excited that that $67,000 that's going to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank is going to be matched 3-to-1 by the federal government."
Harvesting Hope's record-setting event brought out about 8,000 spectators.
