A team effort is underway to map a successful economic future for the Gilbert Plains and Grandview area.

About 40 people turned up to the GKCC last night to participate in a report and analysis of the region.

Tom Barnett of Community Futures Parkland says now it's about picking a priority and heading in a direction.

"Once we head in a direction then it will start to build on itself as we go. Our biggest success tonight is we got the right people in the room to decide in general what direction we should get headed in. Now if we can keep that energy and keep moving."

People from Gilbert Plains, Grandview, as well as Dauphin came to the meeting. Some of the things they identified as key to to future success were better cell and Internet service, promoting "Grand Plains" as a region, and incentives for business.
