Dorion Inducted to High School's Hall of Excellence
Dauphin's Desiree Dorion is decidedly excellent.
Dorion joined the DRCSS Hall of Excellence last night at the school's Awards celebration.
Stephen Jaddock with Mountain View School Division calls her induction really great.
"It captures the imagination of the students. They can see that they can attain to something and be successful, and it's great to celebrate our former graduates."
Dorion, a musician and a lawyer, graduated from the DRCSS in 2001. She was given a standing ovation for her speech.

Saturday Deadline for Canada Post Labour Dispute
Some businesses are encouraging customers to pay their bills online, over the phone, or at their local bank in the face of a potential Canada Post strike.
TD Bank, Virgin Mobile, and American Express have told customers not to expect bills in the mail in the event of a labour disruption.
Here in Dauphin, the city said at this week's council meeting that water bills will still be due, and the strike is not an excuse for not paying.
Unionized workers at Canada Post are in a legal strike or lockout position as of Saturday if an agreement isn't reached.
The last day for mail delivery would be today if a labour disruption occurs this weekend because of the Canada Day holiday tomorrow.

Suicide Attack Kills 30 in Afghanistan
A suicide bomber near the Afghanistan capital has attacked a bus carrying trainee police officers, killing 30.
Afghan officials say today's attack took place some 20 kilometres west of Kabul.
The police recruits were returning from a training centre in Wardak province and were heading to Kabul on leave.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

Microbeads Given Toxic Status
The federal government has officially listed microbeads as a toxic substance under the Environmental Protection Act, giving Ottawa the ability to control or outright ban their use.
An online notice was published yesterday on the tiny plastic beads commonly found in facial and body scrubs and cleansers.
There is concern and evidence the plastic beads accumulate in lakes and rivers, harming the environment and aquatic life.

Dauphin's Busiest Weekend Begins
Two major Dauphin events get underway today.
Gates opened at Countryfest yesterday but today is the real deal. The Dauphin Ag Society Fair also starts today.
Mayor Eric Irwin, who is also the president of Countryfest, calls it an exciting time of year.
Gates open for both the Fair and Countryfest at 9 this morning.
