A grade 11 student from Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School (DRCSS) has a new set of wheels thanks to the school's attendance initiative.

Austin Gawryluik was the winner of a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire after his name was drawn from over 17 hundred ballots at the DRCSS earlier today.

Ironically, Gawryluik was actually away from school at the time of the draw. Gawryluik says, "I was at home just working on an assignment for my agriculture class and then all of a sudden my phone started getting texts and calls."

DRCSS Principal Norm Casavant says it was a very successful year for the school with many students competing in provincial and national competitions such as Skills Canada, a football championship plus a provincial volleyball title.
