Grade 12 student, Morgan Sametz is this year’s winner of Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School’s Car Giveaway.
Morgan says she wasn’t expecting to win.
“On the way here I was thinking is this about my credits, did I win a scholarship or something like that. I kind of had an idea that it was about the car, but I wasn’t expecting it.”
Something unique about the car she won is that it’s a right-hand driving vehicle.
“I don’t fully have my license yet so driving, in general, is a little intimidating, so getting used to the right-hand drive will be a little different, but I think I’ll get used to it pretty fast.”
Patty Goodine, who’s a teacher at the high school, says they started doing this car giveaway six years ago, and initially it was to boost attendance.
“We had this car last year, but we couldn’t give it away because we started out with the attendance incentive but COVID sent us home. So we brainstormed and decided that we just wanted students to say why they deserved the car.”
The cars that the school gets every year are donated by the community. This year's car was donated by Laura Meads and Dale Guttman, and this is their second time donating.
