Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School is displaying a new sign by its front doors.

The sign reads: ‘EVERY CHILD MATTERS’ and has the number 215 in the middle to commemorate the 215 children found in the mass grave at the Kamloops residential school.

It was created by welding instructor, Jason Rudkavich, and Educational Assistant, Wendy Wellborn.

Jason says that he wanted to do something as soon as he heard about the Kamloops tragedy, but wasn’t sure what to do at first.

He ended up designing the sign, and he and Wendy painted it. Collision Repair Teacher, Bryan Hannibal clear-coated it so that it can be displayed outside for all to see.

Wendy says the tragedy is history, and that our history shouldn’t be erased, good or bad, because you learn from it.
