At one point in time they certainly weren't, but for the last couple of seasons, the Dauphin Clippers women's rugby program has been a perennial powerhouse, and that seems to be continuing.

After thumping Vincent Massey Brandon, 69-0 in the quarterfinals earlier this week, the Clippers are now just two wins away from Westman High School Rugby Championship.

When was their last Championship? Last season, as the lady Clippers 7's won the Westman High School Rugby League.

"The girls work really hard, and we work them hard," said Mandy Carberry, Coach. "They want to win at all times. It's like we're one big family, and everyone has the same goal, and love playing for each other."

Mandy also knows exactly why the Clippers women's rugby program continues to get stronger as the years go on.

"I think it has a lot to do with community involvement," she said. "Everyone is really passionate about it, and we try to give the ladies as much exposure as possible. And, the more exposure they get will lead them to becoming better athletes."

Dauphin doesn't know who they'll play in the semifinals next Tuesday yet, but, Mandy shares some things that get her really excited about still playing rugby this late in the season.

"It's awesome watching the new athletes develop into great players," she added. "And, seeing some of the girls graduate to play rugby at the next level is always a rewarding thing to be a part of."
