In just over a month, Dauphin`s Brayden Broome will be in Thompson, taking part in the Manitoba Winter Games.

Broome, who plays with the Bantam Parkland Rangers, will take part in the men`s hockey tournament, when it gets underway, on March 4.

"It means a lot to me," said Broome. "There isn't a lot of players from this area that got picked, so it feels good that I was chosen."

Broome is the only forward on team West (Green), from the Rangers, and with this year's event featuring the best U-16 teams in the province, the competition level will be very high.

"Obviously we want to win that gold medal," said Broome. "But, there's a lot of strong teams. They set up the rosters so the competition would be really even, so it won't be easy."

Besides three other Rangers on the team, Broome is joined by 13 players from out of the Parkland region on his team.

"It's going to be exciting playing with some new players," said Broome. "Usually I'm playing against these guys, but now, I'm on their team, so it's going to be fun."

Besides winning a gold medal, Brayden also has other goals, that will help him progress into a better player.

"I need to watch all the players, and see how they finish off plays," said Broome. "If I can take a few things away from each player, that will help me going forward."

Broome and the rest of team West (Green) kick-off their tournament on March 4, at the C.A. Nesbitt Arena.
