If you are looking to get an early start on your Christmas shopping, then a trip to Grandview this Saturday is in order.

Their 14th annual Fall Harvest Craft and Trade Show goes from 10-4 at the Kinsmen Community Centre.

Organizer Michelle Wohlgemuth says they will have around 39 exhibitors, with a little bit of everything available.  

"We have crocheters, bakers, a number of woodworkers that make bird houses and decorative bowls and utensils.  There will be Mary Kay products, some rocks, 3-D printing, Tupperware, teas and printed caanvases." 

There will also be a silent auction, as well as a lunch provided by the Seniors Drop in Centre. 

Admission is just $3 to get it.

Neepawa's Home Hardware Building Centre, along with Tree Canada, and the Town of Neepawa, recently participated in a community tree plant at the site of the new Neepawa Hospital on Hamilton Street.
 
Dealer-Owner Michelle Gerrard and her team joined community members and town staff to help enhance the future hospital and school grounds. While the Town of Neepawa crew had already completed much of the planting, participants were able to tour the construction site, see the area's future development plans, and discuss continued greening efforts for the years ahead.
 
With plenty of open space still to be developed, the team was proud to support Tree Canada's continued efforts to grow a healthier, more sustainable community.
 
"It was great to see the new hospital site coming together and to contribute to the growth of this important community space," said Michelle Gerrard, Dealer-Owner of Neepawa's Home Hardware Building Centre. "There's plenty of room for more trees in the future, and we're proud to support Tree Canada and the Town's efforts to make Neepawa even greener."

The temperatures are taking a dip, but you can still stay active. You won't even have to worry about bundling up.

You can walk for free inside Credit Union Place on the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy Walking Track. An even surface, climate-controlled comfort, and it's safe and secure.

The track will remain free every single weekday, Monday to Friday.

Community organizations and groups have stepped up to sponsor free walking on weekdays.

They include the Rotary Club of Dauphin, South Parkland Healthy Child Coalition, Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy, Aspen Insurance and Re/Max Parkland Realty, and the Dauphin & District Community Foundation.

Staying active and getting those steps in just became so much easier thanks to the walking track inside Credit Union Place, free to use Monday to Friday.

Prairie Mountain Health is set to put a bow on the year it has been.

They'll hold their virtual Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, October 22. It'll be from noon until 1:00 p.m., and Prairie Mountain Health staff, community representatives, organizational members, and area residents are invited to join. Details on how you can do so will be available in the coming days. There will be no pre-registration required.

Treena Slate is the Chief Executive Officer for PMH.

"Prairie Mountain Health will be highlighting our last fiscal year performance and reviewing our strategic plan process and priorities," said Slate. "We will also look at our engagement with health partners and stakeholders throughout the region and province."

The last operational year was April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. The AGM will also see Slate acknowledge and recognize the tremendous efforts of health care staff, physicians, and volunteers who continue to assist individuals and families who need care and support within the region.

"We can't achieve the great work we do without our wonderful, high-performing staff," added Slate. "I'm always overly impressed with our employees when I visit a site or program. Seeing their enthusiasm, care, and compassion for the clients and public they're serving. It's inspiring to see."

There is no lack of conversation resulting in the healthcare shortage in Manitoba. Wait times are up, and many Manitobans have to wait a long period before getting the care they need. In Prairie Mountain Health, the eight new international medical graduates who will practice in Manitoba are certainly a step in the right direction. 

In the last year, PMH has hired 50 doctors in various communities within the region. Swan River recently welcomed three new doctors, Neepawa welcomed one, and Roblin received two.

When it comes to adding more, Slate says it's always a work in progress.

"You know, recruitment and retention are always our priority," ended Slate. "There are some slight improvements in some areas with recruitment. More people are in training seats, nursing programs, and support staff programs. So that is very reassuring to see."

Slate reiterated that you are in good hands when you need healthcare within PMH.

"It boils down to our caring and compassionate staff," ended Slate. "Often our staff know the people they're serving personally. They have a true dedication to the work they're doing."

Charges have been laid following the discovery of a body outside of a home in Yorkton last week. 

51-year-old Henry Wayne Chartrand of Yorkton faces one count of second degree murder in the death of 51-year-old Curtis Gilman Bourassa of Winnipeg. 

Chartrand made an initial court appeared in Yorkton on Tuesday.

RCMP say the investigation is ongoing.

The Dauphin Co-op has presented the Dauphin-Ochre Band Parents Organization with a cheque for $6,361.74, proceeds from Fuel Good Day.

The funds will go towards Music Band initiatives, including trips.

City of Dauphin has announced that it's fall cleanup program has now entered the day one waste collection area - which is the final area of the city to be visited during the yearly program. 

Crews will make just one pass through the area to collect items such as leaves, grass clippings and small branches. 

These items should be place neatly in your back lane or on the boulevard in front of your home if you do not have a back lane. 

You are also reminded that household or hazardous waste, or recyclable items cam mot be included in your yard waste, as those types of items will not be collected.

Residents in Dauphin and Swan RIver will not see any mail service today (Wednessday).

According to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers website, rotating strikes by Canada Post employees are taking place today in the two Parkland communities, as well as in Fort St John, BC and Pictou County, Nova Scotia.  

The rotating strikes in parts of the country began on Saturday, replacing the previous nation-wide walkout that had lasted a few weeks. 
 
No word from the union as to if the local strike action will carry on into Thursday.

The Dauphin RCMP are looking for 32-year-old Adam McKay from the Valley River First Nation.

On Friday, officers spotted McKay resting his face on the steering wheel on Railway Avenue North in Grandview. When the officer asked McKay to get out, he refused.

The officer opened the door, where a struggle ensued. With the door still open, McKay fled, and the officer did not pursue him due to a risk to public safety.

McKay is known to frequent Grandview and Dauphin. He usually drives a white Chevrolet Silverado with black markings. If you know where he is, call the Dauphin RCMP at 622-5020.

A by-election has been scheduled for December 2nd to fill a vacancy on the Mountain View School Division board of trustees. 

The seat that is open is in the City of Dauphin, and is due to the death earlier this year of John Taylor. 

Nomination packages can be picked up starting today (Wednesday) at the school board office. 

They must be signed by a minimum of 25 eligible voters in the city, and can be turned back in to the school board office between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm on either October 21, 22, 23, 24, or 27.  

The by-election will occur if more than one candidate files papers.

The construction is almost complete, and the staff at Dr Brenna and Three Graces Medi Spa expect to move into their new, expanded location by mid-November. 

At six thousand square feet, the building will be five times larger than their current location.

It will also sport a new name - Arc Skin Laser Veins.  

Owner Dr. Brenna Haverluck says they will still offer the same services in the new building.  

"Right now, we are just expanding our foot care services.  Eventually, we might invest in some new equipment, but at this point just foot care.  And with that, some additional reception and the staff needed to help us run our current services."

Haverluck says gift cards and reward cards from Three Graces will still be accepted at the new location, which will be located near the Medical clinic and hospital.
