Every 4 years, City of Dauphin staff undertake one of their largest executive projects - managing the Municipal Election. One part of that is running advance voting, which took place on Thursday, October 22nd.
Lisa Gaudet, Deputy City Manager, said this year's advance voting went exceptionally well. This year saw 357 ballots cast during advance voting, which is less than 2022's Municipal Election. But Gaudet says that's not a bad sign.
"We did have a steady stream of voters coming into City Hall, 357 voters. Yes that is a decrease since 2022, when we had 541, but one difference between the two elections is the number of candidates running for council, so in 2022 we had 17 candidates running for the 6 council positions, compared to 10 candidates this year," said Gaudet.
Election day is tomorrow. Gaudet said her staff are putting some finishing touches on the process, and they're ready to go. She said her team is top-notch, and she expects the process to go well.
"I have an excellent election planning team here at City Hall, we have all of our supplies ready, we're going to be at the Dauphin Friendship Centre [today] setting everything up, and we'll be ready for polls to open 8:00 AM on Wednesday the 28th, we encourage everyone to bring their identification with them when they come to vote," said Gaudet.
The City of Dauphin's voting will take place at the Dauphin Friendship Centre, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Starting at 7:45 PM, CKDM NewsNow will have live-on-location coverage from the reporting centre, and will be giving updates on elections all across the Parkland.
