Through fundraisers and direct support, the Dauphin Knights of Columbus donated $4320 to the Ste. Rose Hospital's Palliative Care Unit.
Lloyd Hudson with the Dauphin Knights of Columbus said the donation has a lot of meaning for him. His sister was taken care of at the Palliative Care Unit, and passed a few months ago. After talking with the Dauphin and Ste. Rose Knights of Columbus, they planned a donation themselves, plus a fundraiser with local partners.
"I talked to Dauphin council into giving them $3,000, and then we decided that we would have a fundraiser barbecue in Ste. Rose, and we had that on October 7th...the fundraiser we did with the help of quite a few individuals, like the Knights from Ste. Rose, a few from Dauphin, and of course donations from Dauphin Co-op, they supplied us with drinks, and Steve Enns and the IGA in Ste. Rose," said Hudson.
Lloyd's sister was in the Palliative Care Unit for cancer related care. He said she appreciated the services and comfort she received there, and hopes this donation will go to further improve patient comfort.
Hudson added he feels having a Palliative Care Unit in Ste. Rose is very important.
"She was there, she was kept comfortable, and everything went so well for her. The fact is that she was so appreciative of it...it just means so much to have palliative care available in your community, as opposed to what people are talking to nowadays with MAID," said Hudson.
The Dauphin Knights of Columbus are hosting a speaker to give a presentation on MAID tomorrow evening at St. Viator's Church in Dauphin.
