According to the latest Manitoba Agriculture Crop Report, harvest in Manitoba is up to 65% complete, with harvest here in the Northwest at 58%.
The Northwest's progress this week came from notable advancement in canola harvesting - now up to 70% complete. Winter Wheat, Fall Rye, and Field Peas all show 100% completion, with Barley and Oats at 80%, Spring Wheat at 85%, and Soybeans at 20%.
Here in the Northwest, a week of excellent weather greatly helped to progress harvest, though most of the region received varying degrees of frost. The lowest overnight temperatures were in Birch River and Ruthenia, at -3.2 degrees.
There are reports of sprouting in some crops. Some low areas in fields continue to hold water, and post-harvest operations continue as conditions improve and dry up. Pre-harvest glyphosate applications in spring wheat are wrapped up, and desiccation and swathing of canola are mostly completed as well.
Yields across the Northwest's crop has been very unpredictable, with canola reported as average to below average, spring wheat reported mixed, and field peas reported mixed.
