Last week, Manitoba's Progressive Conservative Party appointed MLA Konrad Narth as interim leader. Since then, Premier Wab Kinew has answered questions in Legislature exclusively in French over two days - in a move critics view as an attack, considering Narth is not fluent in French.

Kinew defended his decision though, saying he will continue answering questions in French, as it's one of Canada's official languages. When asked if it was respectful to respond to Narth's questions in a language he doesn't understand, Kinew called the question disrespectful.

In the Chamber, MLAs have access to live translations between English and French, so understanding the questions and responses isn't an issue.

Kinew also said his decision to speak French has nothing to do with Narth.
