The Sandy Bay Ojibway Child & Family Services and the Manitoba First Nations Police Service responded to reports of a suicidal person on the First Nation.
When they responded on Monday, the call was found not to be true.
Officers saw drug paraphernalia that indicated potential drug trafficking. Police secured the residence and obtained a search warrant. They seized four grams of cocaine, 116 grams of meth, and items related to drug trafficking. A gun was also seized.
48-year-old Joseph William Desmarais of Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation faces a slew of charges, including possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and possession of a weapon while prohibited.
He remains in custody.
