Dauphin’s Lane Prokopowich and her curling team continued with their solid season this weekend.

Playing in the Stonewall Family Foods Junior Classic, Lane and her team made the finals, where they came up just short.

In the round robin, the foursome went a perfect 3-0. They also cruised in their semifinal game as they beat Team Davies, 6-2.

In the finals they went down early and couldn’t come back in a 7-5 defeat.

The second place finish adds to their tournament win early this season. 

The teams road to the provincials in Dauphin continues in a couple of weeks in Red Deer.

Keaton Ziprick made some big saves to keep his team in it, Taggert Plouffe scored twice, but it wasn’t enough for the Parkland U18 Rangers.

Eastman scored the game breaker in the third as they won their first game of the year, 5-4 over the Rangers.

Plouffe opened up the scoring just 1:15 into the game, but Eastman scored two straight to take a 2-1 lead after 20.

Just 1:21 into the second, Plouffe scored his second goal of the game to tie it up. 

The back and forth affair continued after that. Eastman regained their lead before Jayce Legaarden tied it for Parkland  with 9:09 left in the second. 

Tied at three, Eastman scored to take a 4-3 lead, but Parkland responded. Mackenzie Menard scored 2:29 into the third to tie it again. 

Eastman scored the game-winner with just less than eight minutes left.

Parkland takes their 0-4 record to Kenora for two games next weekend and one against Eastman.

Kyan Grouette scored four goals, Madden Murray had three and the Parkland Bantam Rangers capped off their first Showcase of the season with a big 9-4 win against Norman in Winnipeg.

In a game where Parkland had 46 shots, they never trailed. They scored five goals in the second period alone as they led 7-0 after 40 minutes. 

Norman did score four times in the third, but the Rangers added two as they handily won their final game of the weekend.

When it comes to the tournament’s leading scorers, Parkland had the Top 3. 

Grouette finished with 13 points, Brayden Dube was in second with nine and Murray finished with seven.

The Swan Valley Tigers junior varsity girls volleyball team continued a solid season in Virden this weekend.

For the second weekend in a row, the team made the finals, where they came up short against the host Virden squad.

In the round robin, they lost just one set against Hamiota and they finished first in their pool.

They went on to beat The Pas in the quarterfinals and Elie in the semifinals. Their semifinal win was a comeback after they dropped the first set. 

In the finals, they played very hard, but came up short, 23-25 and 22-25.

”We’re extremely proud of the girls with how they played,” said coach Zamzow.

Swan River’s Derek Chez and his team won the Ironman Tournament at the Gilbert Plains Country Club yesterday. 

Derek played with Clint Rudkavich, Tyler Rizok, and Colin Rizok.

For the second time this season, the Gilbert Plains Trojans varsity girls volleyball team is Champions.

The team went on to have a near perfect weekend in Roblin as they won the tournament.

In the round robin they beat Ashern, Ebb & Flow, Grandview and Killarney, all in straight sets. 

The team earned a bye into the semifinals where they beat Carberry in three sets.

Another second on the season was taking on Major Pratt in a tournament final. A couple weeks ago, Gilbert Plains beat them in the finals.

Well, they did it again on Saturday to win it all. The set scores were 25-15, 19-25, and 17-15.

The Brandon Wheat Kings put up 40 shots on Saturday night against the Edmonton Oil Kings, but those in attendance at Westoba Place witnessed another special goaltending performance.

One night after Jiri Patera stole the show with a 40-save shutout, Todd Scott was fantastic for Edmonton, making 39 saves.

In fact, he was less than two minutes away from getting Edmonton’s second straight shutout.

Both Scott of Edmonton and Ethan Kruger of Brandon went toe-to-toe in the crease. Each goalie made some big saves as it took more than 30 minutes to find the game's first goal.

At the 14:43 mark in the second, David Kope capitalized on the man advantage for Edmonton as they took a 1-0 lead into the third. Ethan McIndoe had the lone assist.

Holding that 1-0 lead, Scott Atkinson gave Edmonton some breathing room with his fourth of the season at the 7:28 mark.

Vladimir Alistrov and Ethan Cap had the two assists on the goal that made it 2-0.

Brandon continued to push hard, and they got on the board late. On the power play, Chad Nychuk scored his first of the season to trim the deficit in half. Lynden McCallum and Cole Reinhardt inked the helpers.

The goal, however, with 1:46 left ended up being the final of the contest. Scott shut the door the rest of the way for Edmonton to secure a weekend sweep through Manitoba. They hammered Winnipeg 7-0 on Friday night.

Brandon gets nearly no rest. They head to Saskatoon for a mid-afternoon game on Sunday afternoon.

Edmonton resumes their trip on Tuesday in Regina.

They’re now 4-1-2 while Brandon is 2-4.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers losing streak has been extended to three games. 

The club put up just six points tonight as they lost to the Roughriders, 21-6 in Regina. 

The loss drops to Bombers to 9-6 and they’re now in third place in the West Division. 

Saskatchewan, meanwhile, is 10-4 and atop the division. 

Winnipeg will hope to snap the skid next Saturday on home field against Montreal.

The Parkland u18 Rangers played the Winnipeg Wild very close through 20 minutes, but they couldn’t keep it going for a full 60 minutes, 

The club ended up dropping their third straight game, 10-3.

Third year player, Garrett Hrechka led the way with two goals. Taggert Plouffe scored the other marker.

The team is back in action on Sunday when they play Eastman at 1:30.

Kyler Swanton made some big saves and the Parkland Bantam Rangers skated off with a big win against the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Parkland outshot Brandon, 51-26, as they beat them, 7-2.

Carter Zalischuk and Brayden Dube led the way with two goals each. Bo Eisner, Aiden Ziprick, and Kyan Grouette scored in the big win.

The Swan Valley Stampeders have completed a trade after a great start to the season. 

Brady Morrison has been sent to the Neepawa Natives in exchange for Future Considerations.

Brady had one assists for Swan Valley in five games.

Swan Valley continues their season tomorrow against Winnipeg.
