Wow. What a great day of hockey at the Telus Cup Midget West Regional on Friday night in Dauphin.

Both contests ended up tied, but that’s a good thing as both games on Saturday WILL be meaningful to all four teams at the tournament!

REMEMBER: If you can’t make it to the games you can watch them all on FASTHockey!

Round Robin Game 3

Kenora Thistles – 1
Pembina Valley Hawks – 1

Goalies stood tall in the opening affair of the day. Travis Klassen stopped 27 of the 28 shots he faced for Pembina Valley while Brandon Bodnar turned aside 35 of 36. Goal scorers in the contest were Brendan Bartlett (PP) in the first period for Kenora and Mark Klassen in the third for Pembina Valley. Both teams hit a number of posts in the tilt as well, but neither could find their second of the contest. The scenario now for the Pembina Valley Hawks and Kenora Thistles are pretty simple. Win and you’re in. If Kenora can beat Regina tomorrow (12:30pm) and Pembina Valley gets by Parkland (3:45pm) they’ll face each other in Sunday’s Championship contest at 2:00pm.

Round Robin Game 4

Parkland Rangers – 1
Regina Pat Canadians – 1

The treat for the fans came Friday night where the Parkland Rangers and Regina Pat Canadians skated to a 1-1 draw. Over 1000 people were in attendance for the game. Dauphin’s Matthew Greening scored the tournament’s first second period goal on the Power Play in the middle frame. It was his second point of the event. Parkland kept the 1-0 lead until the final minute of the third period when Regina’s Conner Chaulk pushed the puck over the goal line with 30 seconds to play. Both goalies made some key saves, but Rangers netminder Brett Evans probably made a few more. He stopped 27 of the 28 he faced, most high quality. Curtis Merger stopped 15 of 16. When it comes to the road ahead for Parkland and Regina they both obviously need to win. Beyond that I can’t say much more because tiebreakers come into play. Goals for might be key when all is said and done at the end of the day on Saturday. GET YOUR TICKETS!!!
