We are just 31 days away from the Manitoba Summer Games.
Taking place in Dauphin and the surrounding area, there will be athletics, baseball, basketball, cycling, golf, rugby, sailing, soccer, softball, swimming, triathlon, and volleyball. More than 1800 athletes from the entire province will be in the region competing, many of which will be from right here in the Parkland.
Carla Wolfenden is a co-chair for the event and continues to count down the days.
"It's coming very fast, everyone is doing an incredible job to get all of the final details wrapped up," said Wolfenden. "Everything is going very smoothly, we couldn't be happier."
Starting on August 11 and wrapping up on August 17, it is very inexpensive to catch all of the action. You won't even need your wallet to get into any of the venues. Except for the triathlon event in Clear Lake where you will need a park pass and you will also need a park pass to watch the sailing competition at Manipogo Provincial Park.
"That's the great thing about the Manitoba Summer Games, there is no charge to watch any of the events," said Wolfenden. "We hope that everyone comes out to cheer on all of the athletes, we are especially proud of our home region athletes."
The region will be packed. Hotels will be full, restaurants will be jam-packed, and venues will be full. When it comes to finding a place to stay for any of your family and friends who will be visiting, they may have already booked their rooms.
If not, the host committee has partnered with Dauphin's Countryfest and campsites will be available up at the hill. If you'd like to book one, call 622-3700. There is also additional lodging available at Dauphin Rec Services and you can call them at 622-3150.
730CKDM will continue to have extensive coverage leading up to the games and during.
