The Grey Owl tournament and winning trophies go hand in hand for Jay Thiesen.

The Russell golf star captured the Cactus Jack Wells Memorial Trophy on Sunday afternoon at the Clear Lake Golf Course. Playing in the second to last group, Thiesen fired a one-under 71 for a two round score of 144 to win the Grey Owl tournament over Ty Lewis.

It was Jay's fourth career Grey Owl championship. Only two other golfers have more Grey Owl titles. Garth Collings has won the title 11 times while Jim Scissons has seven career titles.

It was also Jay's second straight title at the event. It was also a solid weekend performance for Taylor Fletcher of McCreary. Playing to a two handicap, Fletcher shot rounds of 77 and 77 to finish 13th in the championship flight. Dustin Sas of Benito finished with rounds of 87 and 82 while Greg Misener finished with rounds of 89 and 84. Mark Simpson of Swan River fired a 84 in his first round and a 86 in his second.
