After a cancellation last weekend, the Dauphin Clippers hockey team will officially kick off their preseason this weekend.

They're playing in the Glenboro Tournament as they do every season. Dauphin was supposed to play Vincent Massey last weekend, but Mother Nature said no to that.

"I think our players are pretty happy to get on the ice in-game action, everyone was pretty disappointed about last weekend's game being cancelled," said Jason Alf. "Hopefully, we'll have some guys that will step up and show what they can do."

Last year's Clippers team advanced to the Westman High School Hockey League final, where they came up short against Hamiota. This year's final roster has not been confirmed. That decision will come after this weekend.

They play their first game tomorrow afternoon at 12 against Boissevain. Regardless, the Clippers will play at least three games through Saturday.

"Things are looking good and guys are working hard," continued Alf. "We're going to have some tough decisions after the weekend. You never want to cut people, but it happens and it has to happen."

Among the returnees this year will be the Storey brothers, the Allard's, and Bode Childs, just to name a few.

"We're going to put a lot of pressure on a lot of our veterans, they need to step up," concluded Alf. "We lost some good players last year, but we're looking for everyone to step up their game this season and contribute in the way they can."

Dauphin begins their regular season next Sunday against Boissevain. Their first home game is on November 1 against Deloraine.
