This afternoon there was a prayer service, held in front of Dauphin City Hall, to pray and show support for the people of Ukraine.
The service was held by the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection, and St. George Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
There were prayers and songs in Ukrainian, as well as English, throughout the service, which was run by Father Brent and Father Oleg.
Residents showed up in full-force, and were dressed in Ukrainian colors, waved Ukrainian flags, and held signs to show their support for those suffering in Ukraine with the invasion by Russia.

Tomorrow afternoon, at 4 pm, there'll be a prayer service held in Dauphin to show support for Ukraine and its ongoing invasion by Russia.
The service will take place out in front of Dauphin City Hall, on Main Street South, at the statue of the Ukrainian Bake Oven, and all are invited.
Residents are asked to bring Ukrainian flags, banners, and any other symbols of Ukraine, as well as being encouraged to dress in Ukrainian colours and clothing, to show their support for those back in Ukraine.
The event is being hosted by the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection, and St. George Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Donations to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress will be accepted on-site.

The Manitoba provincial government recently announced that it will be putting forward $300,000 in funding in an attempt to increase the number of Indigenous language translators across the province.
Manitoba hopes to train 45 speakers and 35 translators in Indigenous languages including Dakota, Michif, Cree and Ojibway over the next three years.
The announcement is part of a partnership with Indigenous Languages of Manitoba Inc. They're looking to help strengthen the continued use of Indigenous languages in the province for the future.
The announcement comes after reports from the 2016 census showed that more people in Canada are learning Indigenous languages as a second language than ever before including about 15% that said they could hold a conversation in an Indigenous language while there was an increase of 3.1% of the population that could speak in an Indigenous language.
The language info from the 2021 census has yet to be released.

On Thursday members of the Parkland U-18 Rangers hockey team met in front of the Dauphin Regional Health Center for a cheque presentation towards three separate cancer programs around the Prairie Mountain Health Region.
The Rangers donated a total of $3,600 which was raised during their Hockey Fights Cancer night held back in October with the funds raised through in-game donations, sponsors as well as an auction of special pink jerseys that were worn during that game which were donated by Embroidery by Design in Dauphin.
The donations will be split evenly with $1,200 going to each of the Dauphin, Russell and Swan River Chemotherapy Units to help even more cancer patients in the area.
Shelley Tokarchuk from the Cancer Care Community Program in Dauphin was on hand to receive the funds from Rangers players Rylan Gibbs, Kyan Grouette, Marco Bodnarski, Cohen Smigelsky, Skyler Carriere, Madden Murray, Parker Boguski, Kyler Swanton, Carter Zalischuck and Alumni Dave Swanton.

The Dauphin RCMP are investigating a robbery at a business on Main Street South in Dauphin that happened on January 25th.
The mounties say that 3 males believed to be in their late teens to early twenties entered the business and threatened the employee with bear spray before getting away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect descriptions are as follows:
Suspect 1- Male, approximately 5’10”, wearing a black Nike jacket with stripes down the sleeves and black Ecko pants.
Suspect 2- Male, wearing a black/grey jacket, dark coloured hoodie with the hood up, sunglasses, ballcap and carrying a black bag
Suspect 3- Male, wearing a black jacket, light-coloured hoodie with the hood up and Crooks and Castle black pants.

The Fisher Branch RCMP has arrested 25-year-old Allan Blain Porter for the second time in just over a month.
On January 20, as a result of an ongoing investigation, the Fisher Branch RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in Peguis First Nation. The search of the residence resulted in the seizure of 38 grams of cocaine, nearly $12,000 in cash, and drug-related paraphernalia.
A 25-year-old and 33-year-old from Peguis First Nation were arrested. The two were released and scheduled to appear in court on March 15, when they were to face charges for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.
On February 18, the Fisher Branch RCMP executed another search warrant at the same residence and seized an additional 31 grams of cocaine, cannabis, and drug-related paraphernalia.
Porter was arrested for the second time and remanded into custody on additional charges including Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Possession of Illicit Cannabis, and Fail to Comply with an Undertaking. An investigation is underway.

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League has announced that Kings' defenceman Klim Georgiev has been suspended for a minimum of 18 games subject to completion of the process of reconciliation committed to below as a result of his Gross Misconduct Penalty for discriminatory taunting under Hockey Canada rule 11.4.
The suspension means he won't play another regular-season junior game and he isn't eligible to play for the first seven games of the playoffs.
Georgiev has apologized to the player and the Waywayseecappo Wolverines organization.
The Dauphin Kings have also committed to continuing their work with Wade Houle (Bright Sky Consulting) and Treaty 2 leadership in consultation with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines organization to address this incident and to further combat racism in hockey.
Dauphin returns to the ice on Friday against the Wolverines at Credit Union Place.

The Dauphin Kings are in support of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s decision to suspend Klim Georgiev and will continue to support and guide him through this process.
Although Klim and the Dauphin Kings have taken many steps towards the reconciliation process, we recognize that we still have many more steps to take.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Waywayseecappo Wolverines organization and their community for keeping an open mind and allowing us to take these steps.
We would also ask that everyone please support Klim’s personal life and allow him the opportunity to work through the reconciliation process.

The Manitoba RCMP says that a multi-vehicle collision involving approximately 20 tractor-trailers and 5 passenger vehicles has closed Highway 1 in both directions between Virden & Brandon.
Early reports say that 3 people have been transported to the hospital with injuries but there are no further details at this time.
The RCMP asks the public to avoid the area as Highway 1 is expected to be closed for an extended period of time and there are detours in place.

Cam Abrey's lucky number is 11 and on this day, February 24, 2022, Abrey is celebrating another milestone.
Thursday is Abrey's 11-year anniversary as Fire Chief of the Dauphin Fire Department.
"It's a great feeling, what little kid doesn't want to become a firefighter when you grow up," said Abrey.
Serving and protecting the community are two things Abrey prides himself on and as we move forward, Abrey wants everyone to know that if you need them, the Dauphin Fire Department is here for you.
"We have such a tremendous group here," said Abrey. "I've had the opportunity to travel coast-to-coast with the Manitoba Association of Firefighters which has allowed me the chance to meet so many new firefighters and spend time in different communities, it has been excellent."

On Tuesday the Swan River R-C-M-P responded to a house on the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation after reports of multiple people being stabbed and one person being assaulted.
When officers arrived they found three victims with stab wounds and one that had been assaulted. The victims aged 54, 30, 18 and 17 were all from the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.
The 30-year-old was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and later transferred to Winnipeg. The 18-year-old and 17-year-old were treated and released from the hospital while the 54-year-old, who had been assaulted, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
18-year-old Terrance Kematch of Sapotaweyak Cree Nation was arrested nearby and remanded into custody on charges including Breaking and Entering, Assault with a Weapon, Mischief Under $5000 and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. while a 17-year-old female from Norway House was also arrested in connection but released while awaiting a court appearance in Swan River at a later date.

Russian troops have launched a broad assault on Ukraine from three sides.
The military attack began before dawn with explosions in the capital Kyiv and other cities.
Ukrainians started fleeing some cities, and the Russian military claimed to have incapacitated all of Ukraine's air defences and airbases within hours.
Ukraine's leadership said at least 40 people have been killed so far in what it called a ``full-scale war'' targeting the country from the east, north and south.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he will meet today with fellow G-7 partners to discuss the invasion and would work quickly with NATO to come up with a collective response.
