If you're looking to add some fright to your Saturday night, you'll want to head to a special event at Northgate Trails.

Nothgate's Haunted Forest Walk will be taking place tonight, with the kid's walk starting at 7-7:30, and a much scarier adults' walk set for 8:30.

It’s getting spooky out at Northgate! Come for a walk or ride before the snow flies! Haunted forest walk starts tmrw night 7-7:30 for kids, 8:30 for adults!

Melisa Stephaniw with Trail Tutors helped organize this free-to-attend event, and she gives a great deal of credit to all the local actors that are coming out to provide the spooky atmosphere.

"We've got a lot of cool partners that we're bringing in, lots of dedicated folks. We've got Theatre Amisk, Second Story Players, and a bunch of actors. they're going to act out a witch storyline that links back to a little bit of the history of the park and why the area is considered haunted."

There will also be big bonfires at the trailhead, with hot chocolate to keep attendees warmer.

It is recommended to dress warm, as the cold weather is moving in, and the temperature is looking quite chilly for this weekend.

So if you're looking for a spooky, family-friendly Saturday night activity, Northgate has you covered!

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 20 in Dauphin is all about giving back to the community and they have done just that once again.

After raising funds from people buying poppies and wreaths, Norma Johnson was on hand to donate $8,965 to the Dauphin Regional Health Centre's Palliative Care Unit. The funds will be used to purchase two blood pressure monitors.

Johnson handed the cheque to Greg Thompson, who is the Chairperson of the Dauphin Hospital Foundation, in front of the Legion in Dauphin.

"This could affect so many seniors or veterans," said Johnson. "These new machines will be there for those that need them."

The local Royal Canadian Legion Branch 20 has made many large donations in the past and as Johnson says, it's critical to continue doing so.

"It's very important to support and it's great that our hospital will have more equipment now," ended Johnson.

Johnson also urges Parkland residents to consider donating through purchases of poppies again this year.

A 33-year-old man from Dauphin has lost his life after a motor vehicle accident earlier this week.

On Wednesday (October 25) at about 11:40 p.m., RCMP officers from Headingley and Stonewall responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover on Highway 1, located about one kilometre west of Highway 26.

The vehicle, with two occupants, was travelling westbound when it crossed over the bridge spanning the Assiniboine River. It then entered the ditch and rolled. The 33-year-old man was transported to the hospital and he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.

The 45-year-old passenger, also from Dauphin, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Weather conditions are believed to be a factor in the collision.

The case of a Russell man accused of uttering threats online will return to court later next month.

RCMP in Russell says they were informed on January 11th about a man making threats on a social media account towards law enforcement personnel, government officials, and medical professionals.

Officers attended the suspect's residence and took him into custody after he reportedly resisted arrest.

42-year-old Michael Man will be back in court on November 22nd.

If you're out on Main Street this evening, you might notice a group of shambling zombies and other costumed individuals roaming around.

The Dauphin Friendship Centre is bringing back their annual Zombie Walk for another year, and it's all going down tonight.

The night kicks off at the DFC, where people are asked to gather at 5 p.m., and the walk will take place shortly after at 5:30 p.m.

Carrie Lang with the DFC says that you don't have to look like the walking dead to take part in this walk.

"We do get lots of people who dress up really well and have good costumes. but over the years, we've advertised that any costume you choose to wear is great. We get zombies, and all kinds of kids dressing up as different characters."

There are more festivities that take place after the walk too, as there will be a light supper and games at the DFC following the walk.

It would be a Halloween event without candy as well, so each participant will get a candy bag on their way out at the end of the night.

So don't be too shocked when you a spooky group wandering town, as it's just the Dauphin Friendship Centre's Annual Zombie Walk!

CKDM News Now caught up with David Bosiak as he marks one year on the job as the city's new mayor.

Bosiak won a two-person race on October 26th of last year to become the new mayor.

"I think it has been pretty much what I expected. I knew that the first year of a four-year mandate for any municipal government has a lot of leftover business from the previous mandate. So I did not have a lot of expectations in the sense that we are going to do everything that our new council wants to do in the first year. But I would like to think that we laid the framework for doing that and we are really looking forward to the next three years."

Bosiak adds he has developed a great relationship with his councilors.

"We are all on the same page, and we all believe in good things for our community, and working towards it. So there is a real positive sense of working together and not having to protect ourselves from each other or have any animosity between members of council or staff."

Tourism is high among Bosiak's top priorities for the remainder of this term.

"We are looking forward to re-igniting our hosting capacity. We want to support our major festivals - the Ukrainian Festival and Dauphin's Countryfest, both of which have big anniversaries coming up. And then we have the wonderful development happening up at Northgate, and then with the 2024 Manitoba Summer Games happening in Dauphin. That is one of our major strategies to make Dauphin a great tourist destination."

Bosiak added one of the things that he wanted to do was to ensure that the environment at City Hall was a positive one - a great working environment between council and administration and senior staff.

He adds he is more than pleased with the capacity and capabilities of city staff, adding the city has one of the strongest municipal administrative teams in the province.

The lineup for the 35th anniversary edition of Dauphin's Countryfest is starting to take shape.

"It would not be Countryfest without Doc Walker, Michelle Wright, and Jason McCoy - we managed to secure the Great Canadian Road Trip," said Countryfest General Manager Kamryn Winters when announcing the first group of acts signed on 730 CKDM Friday morning. "Jason (McCoy) is also hosting again all weekend long which is great because he does such a great job. We have also secured a couple of packages - one of which is the Queens of the 90s country - which includes Patricia Conroy, Lisa Brokop, and Beverly Mahood. And we have also secured "The Frontmen", which includes Richie MacDonald of Lonestar, Larry Stewart of Restless Heart, and Tim Rushlow of Little Texas"

"We have also managed to secure Diamond Rio, Mark Chesnutt, Jodee Messina, the Nitty Gritty Dirt band, and Alabama - which is great because we love Alabama and we definitely wanted them to come back for our 35th (show)."

Winters is encouraging everyone to come back for what she says will be a family-friendly event.

We are encouraging people to come back to the festival - bring your kids, your parents, and your grandparents. It is going to be exciting. We are focusing a lot of this year on the experiences at the festival. So in the next couple of months, we are going to announce new things coming to Countryfest, including different sanctioned events and special events."

Winters adds tickets will be going on sale to the general public very soon.

the 35th edition of Dauphin's Countryfest goes from June 28th to 30th at the Selo Ukraina site.

A man accused of breaking into a Swan River home twice and then vandalizing several vehicles and a business in the community will return to court next month.

Just before midnight on September 24th, Mounties say a man broke into a home, assaulted a man, and stole a cellphone and bicycle, before fleeing the scene.

The next morning, the same suspect broke into that same home, smashing items, and stealing a hammer before leaving, and going to a Main Street business, where he allegedly smashed two parked vehicles, and windows of the business, with flying glass injuring a female employee.

37-year-old Jeremy Gingras is due back in court on November 7th.

Prairie Mountain Health has a number of flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinics planned for Thursday.

The Ste Rose Community Centre will host one from 9 until 3:30 p.m., while Winnipegosis will host one from 10 until 3 at the New Horizons Seniors Centre.

The Bowsman Legion Hall will host one from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

There will also be a clinic at the Dauphin Active Living Centre from 2 to 6 p.m.

You need to bring your Manitoba Health Card and are encouraged to wear a short-sleeved shirt.

You are encouraged to book an appointment, although walk-ins will be accepted.

November 21st will be the next court appearance for a Dauphin man arrested following a traffic stop this summer.

37-year-old Christopher Bilay made a brief appearance in Dauphin provincial court earlier this week.

RCMP say on the evening of June 13th they spotted a vehicle speeding northbound on Main Street, and pulled it over, finding two men inside, along with a strong smell of alcohol and a large bag of unmarked cigarettes.

After the driver failed a roadside breathalyzer, Mounties searched the vehicle and discovered a homemade gun with a bayonet attached, along with used and unused ammunition, several cell phones, and a quantity of cash.
