A local random act of kindness on Facebook spread across the Parkland.
Dauphin’s Tara Aitken tells 730 CKDM about her experience with an outstanding employee at a local business.
“A few times when I have gone through A&W’s Drive Thru, Erica had always been the person who works at the drive thru and she has always been absolutely fabulous. She’s super nice, super kind and that is exactly how she was on Friday and it had been a fairly busy day for her earlier she said, and yet she still had a smile and still was friendly. That was my experience and she just makes you want to come back, you know. She makes you feel like you’re the only person that she is dealing with even though she has a lot going on.”
Erica Chartrand, was taken aback by the post she saw on Facebook.
“When I read that post, I was actually working and I stopped. I got these butterfly feelings, my hands were just shaking and I was so happy and proud of myself. I screenshotted it, and I was thinking it wouldn’t get more than 80 Likes and then sure enough, 100, and then it kept continuing and progressing. I was just happy and I wanted to let my team know that it's not only me, it’s all of us doing it.”
The post on Facebook received over 200 Likes in a very short period of time.
One random act of kindness sets forth a positive chain reaction and can brighten up anyone’s day.

The standoff yesterday, between Brandon Police and a 43 year old man, ended with the man being transported to hospital for mental health treatment.
Police arrived around 3:30 yesterday and stayed until 1:00 in the morning when the man exited the residence and was taken into police custody.
As officers approached the residence, the suspect was observed holding a knife and began to threaten Police.
The suspect stated he also had Molotov cocktails and a chainsaw and threatened Police with these.
After some failed attempts at negotiating with the suspect to calm down, officers heard the man start up a chainsaw.
Continued dialogue led Police to believe that the man might have been experiencing a Mental Health Crisis.
A police investigation continues to determine if Criminal Charges will be laid.

When is the Dauphin MRI coming, is the question on everyone’s mind.
NDP Health Critic, Andrew Swan, asked the question during Estimate.
“With great fanfare a couple of months ago, the minister announced that in fact there would be a MRI in Dauphin. This week I had the chance to ask the minister about it in a process called Estimates, and I though on behalf of the people of Dauphin and people of the Parkland, I would try to get a better answer. I asked the minister when the MRI would be up and running, I was kind of surprised that not only did he not have an answer, but he was pretty glib about the whole thing.”
Local MLA Brad Michaleski, explains why it’s hard to give a specific date.
“There is construction going on right now at the Dauphin Regional Hospital, with the emergency room upgrade that is going on. So do you know if those two things are going to be operational together or separately, I don’t know, but what’s important is that our government is committed to bringing the MRI to Dauphin and we’re continuing on with that path.”
This past December, the provincial government announced they were going to follow through with the MRI in Dauphin.

The crime of shoplifting poses a real challenge, one that some Dauphin businesses know all too well.
There’ve been concerns of ongoing challenges and timely response to calls of this crime, raised concerns that were brought to the City of Dauphin.
A meeting was held with the City of Dauphin, Dauphin & District Chamber of Commerce and the Parkland area RCMP Detachment.
RCMP will report to calls of shoplifting, as long as there are no other higher priority calls ahead of that one.
Some store owners post videos or photos from their surveillance cameras on social media, to help them catch the suspects.
Staff Sergeant Nolan Suss, Area Commander of the Parkland Detachment, knows there has been some success with this method.
“I know businesses are frustrated with stealing and I know that practice has actually identified some people who have been doing this. I guess the best thing is the prevention of the theft in the first place. So if they can set up the environment in their store so as to prevent the theft in the first place; that’s probably their best defence.
Video surveillance is becoming more affordable and is the best way to control shoplifting.

Municipalities across the province struggle when members act inappropriately towards one another.
The Minister of Municipal Relations, Jeff Wharton, will be listening to what people have to say on the matter at the District Meetings, with one being scheduled in Swan River for June 8.
Bill Galloway, Reeve for Swan Valley West Municipality, thinks it’s caused by a conflict of personalities.
“Often times I think its conflict of personalities. Everyone sitting at the table obviously has their own thoughts on how things should be done or on how a project should be done or whatever. Very often conversation gets more heated than what it should; voices rising and fingers pointing and that sort of antic. That’s uncalled for. There should be modicum of politeness and understanding; that’s what’s missing.”
Swan Valley West was in full support of the motion for this support at the AMM’s convention and would like to see tougher penalties for those councillors who cross the line for the Code of Conduct.
