A documentary narrated by Neil Degrasse Tyson is showing tomorrow evening in Brandon.
Hosted by the Manitoba Canola Growers, ‘Food Evolution’ looks into GMOs and how they’re affecting the food we eat and the food industry.
Leanne Campbell, Communications Manager with the MCG talks about why the group decided to show the documentary this week.
“From the work we have done, we found consumers are very curious about where their food comes from. Often they have lots of questions about GMO crops. This movie will touch specifically on some of those issues and we are hoping the panel discussion following that will further that conversation.”
You can still get tickets for the showing that takes place tomorrow at 6 in the evening at the ACC campus.

Two victims in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash were misidentified according to the coroner’s office.
Xavier Labelle is not deceased; the player has been identified as Parker Tobin.
Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice issued a statement on the matter, in saying the coroner’s office extends their condolences to all families.
A vigil was held last night honouring all 15 members who passed away in the crash, including 10 players and Labelle.

Tomorrow guest speaker Carly Minish, creator of Smak Dab Mustard is presenting at the Dauphin & District Chamber of Commerce’s luncheon
She created a variety of speciality mustards using local products.
Minish wants to focus on her line of mustard and expand.
“I’ve kind of dabbled in maybe expanding into different food products because of my chef’s background and maybe expanding into different things; but I’m really just passionate about mustard right now. So I think that’s going to be our company’s focus. You know were looking at maybe some private labels with specific companies in the city. Expanding our company to more Canada wide is kind of our next goal now that we’ve really built our business to be strong in Manitoba and we’re ready to kind of expand across the country; so that’s kind of what we are working on right now.”
The focus of the luncheon is about utilizing local resources and tickets are available by calling the chamber at 622-3140.

The Humboldt Broncos held a vigil for those who have fallen after the Friday night crash.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was among the thousands at the Broncos rink, along with Don Cherry and multiple former NHL players paying their respects.
The vigil was packed by 6:30, filling the Broncos‘ Elgar Petersen Arena.
The Queen issued a statement, saying “Prince Phillip and I were saddened to hear word of the crash involving the Humboldt Broncos team. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost so much, with their families and with all Canadians who grieve with them at this time.”
Multiple members of the community and pastors were among those who spoke at the vigil including a minute of silence at 7:32 Saskatchewan time, when game six of the Broncos playoff series with the Nipawin Hawks was set to begin.
In total, 15 passed away in the crash, including 10 players, and 5 of their team personnel including Head Coach Darcy Haugan, and Broadcaster Tyler Bieber.

8 thousand dollars was handed out during the Gilbert Plains Community Fund Dinner and Grant Recognition Night this weekend.
Charlene Gulak, President of the Gilbert Plains Community Fund, helped present awards.
She is pleased with the over 90 community members who came out to the event on Saturday evening.
“We’re so grateful that the community of Gilbert Plains comes together on an annual basis to celebrate the accomplishments of the various community projects that are continuing to move forward.”
Some of the recipients this year included the Rec Complex for air conditioning units, the Gilbert Plains Elementary school, the local splash park, the Ag society for fencing, the Gilbert Plains senior drop-in centre for their ramp, the GP Fitness Centre for a media package, Veselka dancers for new costumes Daily Discoveries daycare for the purchase of a 4 person stroller, the Gilbert Plains personal care home, and the Legion.

A vigil is being planned in Humboldt tonight at 7:00 CST help the community cope with the tragic death of 15 of the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team.
Representatives from local churches in the city are planning the service.
Pirime Minister Justin Trudeau will be on hand.
It’s to be held at the Elgar Petersen Arena, where the team spent it’s time on ice and 20 grief counsellors will be in attendance to provide support to those in need.
The community has rallied together and a wave of strength and support has received been received worldwide.

Condolences have come in from Prime Minster Trudeau and the U.S. President Donald Trump.

RCMP announced that the death toll has risen to 15 following the Humboldt Broncos bus accident Friday night.
The accident happened shortly after 5 p.m. when the Broncos were en route to Nipawin.
Coach Darcy Haugan, Captain Logan Schatz, and Player Adam Herold are three of the deceased who have been identified.
"There are no words to describe what these families are going through, and will for a long time," said Krista Gaber, who is a junior hockey parent from Gilbert Plains. "The hockey world is definitely big, but when something like this happens, it's very small. Everyone is here to support, and what we can do right now is send our love, and our prayers to all those affected."
The 15 other members who were on the bus, including the bus driver, are in the hospital in Saskatoon, and two are in critical condition.
The driver of the semi was uninjured and not in custody.
In a press conference this afternoon the commissioner of the SJHL, William Chow, explained that no decisions have been made moving forward in terms of the league playoffs to this point, or the Broncos organization moving forward.
The Winnipeg Jets and Chicago Blackhawks, along with the NHL have teamed together to support the Broncos organization, as they will be donating $25,000 each along with wearing nameplates with ”BRONCOS” on the backs of their jerseys for tonight’s hockey game.

A GoFundMe page has been created for the Broncos, and just under $3.5 million has been raised as of 12:08 p.m. Sunday.

Tomorrow is the last day to attend Dauphin Arts Fest performances.
The final concert starts at 7:00 and features the best musicians, dancers, and performers of the week.
Organizer, Cheryl Nicholson, says this past week has seen some exciting performances and she is excited for Sunday.
“Sunday evening is our final concert. That’s another free event. That evening you will hear a lot of the performers that have been in the adjudicated events all week. So the piano, the dance, the violin and fiddle players and even some of the band members that have been playing all week long.
The Final concert for Dauphin’s Arts Fest starts at 7:00 tomorrow night at the Watson Art Centre.

Dauphin Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteers.
Rodney Juba, Chair for Habitat explains what the group needs.
“We are looking to fill out our subcommittees, especially in the area of fundraising and media and public relations. As our activities are kicking up with Habitat for Humanity, we are looking to expand our committee accordingly. We do need extra hands on deck to help out.”
Interested residents can ask any current Habitat member for more information, and they ‘ll be set up at the Dauphin Kinsmen Business Expo on April 21st and 22nd.

16 new child care spots are being allotted to Roblin Children’s Centre.
The provincial government announced today an investment in early learning and child care spaces.
Local MLA, Brad Michaleski, notes how needed this is for Roblin, especially after their facility sustained a fire.
“I’m really, really pleased that we that we were able to support the Roblin Children’s Centre to the tune of just over $300,000 for a renovation of their existing space.”
The province is spending $22.8 million dollars to create 780 new licensed early learning and child-care spaces.
