Dauphin RCMP responded to multiple break and enters in Gilbert Plains on Monday February 28.
That evening, officers responded to reports of a break and enter at a business on Main Street North where the male suspect had kicked in the front door as well as smashed a window before running away on foot after noticing an employee inside.
Later that evening the Mounties received reports of a second break and enter at a different business on Main Street North where the suspect entered through the side door and damaged property inside.
The RCMP were able to identify the suspect and arrested a 27-year-old male from Gilbert Plains. He has been charged for both break and enters and has been released for an upcoming court date.

A scary few hours turned into a happy ending thanks to the Fork River Fire Department and Kate Polloway and Bob Johnson are forever grateful.
Earlier this week when Kate was heading to Brandon, the family dog Landy escaped and the search to find him began at around 11 a.m. About five hours later at 4:30, Landy was spotted and he tried to make his way back through the field and got lost along the Mink River. The banks were drifted very high and the snow was up to everyone's waist.
So Kailey Landers and Alicia Zurba tracked him to the bush across from Kyle Toews' house. The snow was too deep; however, so that's where the Fork River Fire Department came in. They followed Landy's tracks on Skidoos and eventually found him hunkered down in the snow but he wouldn't come to them.
So Kailey hopped on the Skidoo with Matt and ultimately, Landy was able to get on the sleigh and he was pulled back to safety. Kailey wants to thank Matt Zurba, Kyle Toews and Corey Toews for what they did.
"It wouldn't have happened without you guys, we are so thankful," said Landers. "It was so kind of them to come and help, it was a great outcome. And my auntie and uncle were very happy to have their dog back."

On February 13th, Ste Rose du Lac RCMP officers tried to pull over a vehicle on Provincial Road 278, located south of the community of Bacon Ridge in the RM of Alonsa, but the vehicle did not stop. Officers deployed a spike belt which the vehicle got stuck in, bringing it to a stop.
Officers searched the vehicle and the two people inside. They found 52 grams of methamphetamine, 6.5 grams of cocaine, over $1000 in cash, and other drug-related paraphernalia.
35-year-old Holly Baptiste and 27-year-old Denee Baptiste were arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Flight from Police, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. Both are scheduled to appear in Dauphin Provincial Court on June 14, 2022.

Despite the freezing cold weather, a large group of supporters came out to the Stand With Ukraine rally held in front of Dauphin City Hall last night.
The rally began with a prayer service led by Father Brent Kuzyk from St. George's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and Father Oleg Bodnarski from the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection.
After the prayers, highly emotional speeches about the situation in Ukraine were given by event organizers and local Government Officials, including the MP for Dauphin - Swan River - Neepawa, Dan Mazier, and Dauphin Mayor Christian Laughland. Messages of concern from MLA Brad Michaleski, and Manitoba NDP leader Wab Kinew were also relayed.
The support rally ended with the singing of the Ukrainian National Anthem by all in attendance. If you'd like to donate to help those in Ukraine, you can do so here.

The Dauphin Agricultural Society has announced that the Dauphin Fair is happening this summer.
The 129th annual fair will take place July 1st to 3rd at the Dauphin fairgrounds.

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress has joined forces with Canada-Ukraine Foundation to set up the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal fund.
Stephen Jaddock is one of UCC's local advocates, and says the goal of $5 million has almost been reached.
"The money is going directly on the ground in Ukraine, to be directed exactly where the funds are needed."
CKDM knows how important this cause is to so many people around the Parkland, that's why the station has made a $1000 donation to the fund.
General Manager Allan Truman spoke about the donation.
"We have a large community of Ukrainians here in the Parkland. They're concerned about what's happening there, and we share that concern."
Truman also encouraged others to support, however they're able to.
"We would encourage our many business partners, listeners, and all Manitoba media, if they have the means, to do what they can."
There is also a Stand with Ukraine rally taking place, tonight at 6, outside Dauphin City Hall.

There is another Stand With Ukraine rally taking place in front of Dauphin City Hall, tomorrow at 6 pm.
Event co-organizer, Alia Marcinkow, is hoping there will be a lot of people there to show support.
"We're gonna have a short program to show support for Ukraine as a nation."
This is the third event held in Dauphin to show support for those in Ukraine.
"Show the people of Ukraine that we are here to support them, because they do see all these rallies happening across Canada."

The Dauphin City Council met tonight for their fourth meeting of the year. Here are some highlights from the meeting.
- One of the points of discussion at tonight’s meeting was water main breaks around town. The cities turnaround time for repairing a water main break is roughly 6 hours, and the biggest time constraint is determining exactly where the break is located. There was a new piece of equipment purchased this year that speeds that process up quite a bit and can usually pinpoint where the break is within a meter.
- The Dauphin Public Water System audit for the 2021 calendar year was discussed. The audit indicated that Dauphin was compliant with the terms of the Drinking Water Safety Act.
- There was a letter of support requested for a Building Sustainable Communities Grant. The Dauphin Active Living Centre is requesting a letter of support to apply for a grant that would help fund:
- An upgrade for the kitchen ventilation system to bring it to code.
- An upgrade to the washroom entrance to allow barrier-free accessibility and reduce the spread of germs.
- An upgrade to the entrance/reception area to make it barrier-free and safe for the use of accessibility aids.
- An upgrade to the steps into the building and a parking area for scooters and bicycles.
- There were two letters of support requested for Dauphin and District Community Foundation Grants
- The first was from the Dauphin Neighborhood renewal corporation for a Pilot Transportations project to provide affordable transportation for Dauphin residents to access retail and medical amenities.
- The second was from the Dauphin chapter of Habitat for Humanity. The letter of support would help strengthen Habitat for Humanity’s grant application.

The province of Manitoba is lifting its vaccine passport requirements in all settings across the province effective today.
The province made the announcement that they were going to lift the proof of vaccination requirement at a press conference with Premier Heather Stefanson and Chief Public Health Officer Doctor Brent Roussin that was held on February 11.
With the vaccine passport orders no longer in place, the province says it’s now up to the individual businesses as well as public spaces like arenas, pools, museums, etc. if they want to continue to ask for proof of vaccination. Last week True North Sports and Entertainment, the owners of the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose, announced that despite the lifting of proof of vaccination they will still require it until April 30 for both AHL and NHL games at Canada Life Centre.
Of note, Manitoba has already announced that its provincial mask mandate is expected to be lifted on March 15 in all settings as the final restriction that is set to be lifted.
Meanwhile, the federal government eased the rules for international travelers coming into Canada yesterday (February 28). All double-vaccinated travelers entering Canada by air or land will no longer require a negative PCR molecular COVID-19 test done before departure to enter the country.
On top of that, any unvaccinated travelers under 12 years of age will also no longer need to self-isolate when returning to Canada.
The only requirement left for travel to Canada that remains is a rapid antigen test administered by a health professional for anyone over 12 years of age who wants to avoid quarantining at home for 10 days when they arrive back in Canada.

UPDATE: The Winnipegosis RCMP have arrested 42-year-old Kory Flamand and would like to thank the public for their assistance.
The Winnipegosis RCMP is asking for public help in finding the suspects of an Armed Robbery that happened on Friday. 42-year-old Kory Flamand(pictured below) and an unidentified suspect entered a business on Highway 20 in Camperville, with a firearm. One of the men pointed the gun at an employee and demanded cash, the employee was not physically injured.
The two men fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a gold/grey-colored vehicle with two windows smashed. Flamand has been charged with Robbery with a Firearm and Failing to Comply x2. Officers are still trying to identify the second suspect.

On the evening of February 27, Spruce Plains RCMP responded to a fire at a rural residence on 71 Road West, in the RM of Westlake-Gladstone. Before RCMP arrived, family members attended the residence and noticed flames coming from the home. One of the family members immediately went inside, located an injured 24-year-old male, and pulled him out of the structure.
The male was pronounced deceased at the scene and there was no one else inside at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire hasn't been determined but it does not appear to be suspicious. Spruce Plains RCMP along with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, continue to investigate.
