On Tuesday the Swan River R-C-M-P responded to a house on the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation after reports of multiple people being stabbed and one person being assaulted.

When officers arrived they found three victims with stab wounds and one that had been assaulted. The victims aged 54, 30, 18 and 17 were all from the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.

The 30-year-old was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and later transferred to Winnipeg. The 18-year-old and 17-year-old were treated and released from the hospital while the 54-year-old, who had been assaulted, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

18-year-old Terrance Kematch of Sapotaweyak Cree Nation was arrested nearby and remanded into custody on charges including Breaking and Entering, Assault with a Weapon, Mischief Under $5000 and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. while a 17-year-old female from Norway House was also arrested in connection but released while awaiting a court appearance in Swan River at a later date.

Russian troops have launched a broad assault on Ukraine from three sides.

The military attack began before dawn with explosions in the capital Kyiv and other cities.

Ukrainians started fleeing some cities, and the Russian military claimed to have incapacitated all of Ukraine's air defences and airbases within hours.

Ukraine's leadership said at least 40 people have been killed so far in what it called a ``full-scale war'' targeting the country from the east, north and south.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he will meet today with fellow G-7 partners to discuss the invasion and would work quickly with NATO to come up with a collective response.

It was another busy day in Dauphin Court yesterday.

The three men involved in an armed robbery in the RM of Alonsa were back in court yesterday. 31-year-old Francis Beaulieu, 26-year-old Anton Levasseur, and 29-year-old Victor Levasseur were remanded into custody for their trial in November.

The three men, all from Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation, entered a business on Highway 50 wearing masks and holding firearms on August 9, 2021. They stole cash and cigarettes before fleeing in a vehicle, no employees were hurt. Later, during a traffic stop, Manitoba First Nations Police Service recognized one of the men in a van and could see the firearm. The three men were then arrested, along with the female driver, who was later released without charges.

Meanwhile, Jordy Clyde Robertson from the RM of Grandview was back in court for a number of charges yesterday. Robertson was remanded into custody and will be back in court on March 15.

RCMP arrested the 23-year-old Robertson on January 24, after executing a search warrant at a residence in the RM of Grandview. He was remanded into custody on charges including Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possess Firearm while Prohibited, Importing a Prohibited Device, and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.

Long-term care homes, hospitals and health centres in Manitoba are expanding in-person visits as the province prepares to lift all COVID-19 restrictions by mid-March.

Starting this week, general visits are being permitted in addition to visits from designated family caregivers at care homes.

Jan Legeros of the Long Term & Continuing Care Association says she expects the gradual changes to give designated caregivers more flexibility and loosen time limits on general visits.

She says the changes are a big step forward for the residents who have been isolated for a long time and need to see their loved ones.

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League is continuing its investigation into an incident that happened this past Saturday between the Dauphin Kings and Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

The league released the following statement to Twitter.

"Out of respect of the ongoing process to deal with this matter, we are providing no further comment at this time," said Saurette.

The Dauphin RCMP got a report of a missing 27-year-old man yesterday. Jagger Beaulieu was last seen in Gilbert Plains around noon on Saturday. It is believed Beaulieu was hitchhiking to Portage la Prairie, but police are unsure of the route he was taking, but the starting point would have been Highway 5.

Beaulieu is described as Indigenous, 6’0”, 220 pounds, with shoulder-length dark hair, and a tattoo of “Jag” on his hand. He is possibly wearing a dark grey jacket with a white stripe, black neck warmer, grey toque, black jeans, and black shoes.

There is an extreme cold warning in effect right now and it's expected to stick around for most of the week. Before hitting the road, make sure you're prepared for an emergency. CAA Manitoba's Heather Mack suggests having an emergency car kit, which can include;

  • Water
  • Non-perishable food
  • Flashlight
  • Cell phone charger
  • Extra socks and mitts
  • Shovel

They suggest including anything else you can think of that you might need if you're stuck on the side of the road. You can find CAA's winter driving tips here.

The Louis Riel Day fireworks planned for tonight at 6 pm at the Dauphin fair grounds have been moved to 7 pm. They are asking that people remain in or right beside their vehicles if planning to watch the fireworks near or at the fairgrounds. You can catch the rest of today's events virtually on the Northwest Metis Councils' social media.

The festivities that were planned for today in Ochre River are being postponed because of the extreme cold. They announced the postponement on Facebook this morning.

There is another peaceful rally taking place in Dauphin today to support the protestors in Ottawa. Groups from Roblin, Kamsak, Russell, Ethelbert, Grandview, Gilbert Plains, and Swan River, are all planning to travel to Dauphin to join the rally.

The group is planning to meet at the Dauphin Marketplace Mall parking lot at 1, before convoying throughout the city and ending up back at the parking lot for a rally.
