Stephen Chychota with the Parkland Chamber of Commerce highlights one of the biggest benefits of shopping locally: the people.
"having the ability to walk into a business, see some of the staff, take a look at what they offer, can really shift your perspective."
Having the local people helping you out is always great, and Chychota says they likely have some great reccomendations too.
"The people behind the counters know the treasured items which you might not expect in somes stores. it just takes a little effort. walk in some doors and you might be pleasently surprised."

Shuttlewort-Lafontaine is confident that the donations will allow them to do up hundreds of hampers this Christmas.

"A hamper can be anywhere from a single person to a family of four or six.  And then the larger families we have to give extra hampers too.  But there is just so much there, it is just amazing."

"We are so fortunate that Dauphin and the surrounding area are a very generous community. And very giving.  I know that there is still families waiting to be adopted through the adopt-a-family program.  But Dauphin is very generous and we are very fortunate to be from this community."

Shuttleworth-Lafontaine says they are always looking for volunteers at the Food Bank, adding that you can call the Food Bank if you are available to give a few hours of your time.

members of the Food bank, Fire Department and RCMP detachment

The final numbers are in for the 4th annual Pack the Pumper/ Cram the Cruiser Holiday Food Drive, and the total is mind boggling.

The Dauphin RCMP Detachment and the Dauphin Fire Department had their friendly competition this year, and between the two groups, over 4000 lbs of food have been donated to the Dauphin Food Bank.

The wager between them this year: posing for a picture in the other teams vehicles.

The RCMP would have to suit up and get a picture taken in the pumper truck, or the fire chief himself would have to get his picture taken locked in the back of the cruiser.

Both teams brought in mountains of non-perishables to the food bank this morning.

Fire Chief Cam Abrey and his team hauled in 1125 lbs of food.

The RCMP's Mark-Eric LeRoux meanwhile brought in some record breaking numbers with 3219 lbs of non perishable items

Food wasn't the only thing donated, as the teams also recieved a collective $2,385 in monetary donations. This money will also go straight to the food bank, funding the purchase of perishable food items for their hot meal program.

Both Abery and LeRoux were proud to have taken part in this charity event, and note that it couldn't have been done with out the amazing generosity and many donations of the citizens of Dauphin.

Thanks to the hard work, the many donations, and a little bit of friendly banter, thousands of meals will be provided to the people that need them this year.

They are also asking motorists to refrain from parking in these areas until they have been cleared.
