A family from Duck Bay is back home after the taping of Family Feud.

After a successful virtual audition, Joyce Delaronde, Harold Delaronde, Lisa Delaronde, Noah Delaronde, and Sydney Cable will be featured on the December 7th show. Their audition was about a month ago and the family has already spent a few days in Toronto for the taping of the show.

Harold says it was such a thrilling experience and he can't wait for the time that everyone can watch.

"It was extremely exciting, it was a bit of a whirlwind," said Delaronde. "Jerry D made all of us pretty nervous. It was super neat, especially since I grew up watching Family Feud."

Representing their hometown of Duck Bay, Harold says this experience is one that the family will never forget.

"I felt such a sense of pride to see our name and then Duck Bay under," said Delaronde. "It's honestly still sinking in, it was such a special moment for the entire family."

You'll be able to watch their episode on December 7 on CBC and by heading to Family Feud.

The ground has been broken and concrete's been poured on a new affordable housing fourplex at Parkland Crossing. The project is expected to be complete in February and Wayne Olson, the Community Minister at the Church of Christ, says there will hopefully be more buildings to come in the future.

"It takes a lot of money to do these things. We are a very very small congregation, so having money and people gifting us and finding funding for the project to carry on. We will keep looking for more money to come in to help build. We would like to do three more fourplexes in the next few years if we can. That's our goal and we'll keep looking for funding opportunities so we can build more affordable housing units."

While the building itself won't be complete until late this winter, Parkland Crossing has started taking applications for the units.

"There is an application process for people to go through. We rent to a variety of people, in our facility right now we have 20 apartments and 34 rooming house rooms that we rent out. The process will be very much the same, they will come in and fill out an application."

The fourplex will be all two-bedroom units, and Olson says it's perfect for seniors having trouble keeping up with the rising cost of living, young families just starting out, or single parents with small children.

"People can come in, our business office is open from ten to four every day, and they can get applications from there. If you just want to find out more information about the project you can talk to myself, Wayne Olson, or Jaimie Harvey, or if you know some of the members of the Church of Christ you can talk to any of them, they will all be updated on what's happening. Don't be scared to give us a call, we'd be glad to share information."

Week one of the Jack Winters Trial wrapped up yesterday afternoon.

The two-week trial is on schedule and saw the Crown call a number of witnesses this past week.

Week two gets underway on Monday at 10 in the Aspen Lodge at the Parkland Rec Complex.

Devin Shtykalo is aiming to remain on Dauphin City Council as he runs in the municipal election.

Shtykalo is originally from Dauphin, moved to just outside Winnipeg at age 12, and then went to university in Winnipeg.

He moved back to Dauphin in 2007 with his wife and since then, they had three children who all grew up in Dauphin while attending the schools in the community.

Devin Shtykalo says that people should vote for him because he's a community-minded and community-focused individual who has a passion for making Dauphin the greatest city to live in.

"I take pride in the accomplishments that the City of Dauphin [has been]... able to achieve... I'm willing to continue on that path and to work for the citizens of Dauphin to bring any ideas... concerns or issues forward," he adds.

Shtykalo says that he's running because there have been a lot of key projects that have started over the last few years and he would like to continue on that path.

"[I want to] make sure that the projects and the ideas continue to happen and that the City of Dauphin progresses forward on a sustainable path... [that would make]... it an amazing community for the residents here and visitors alike," he adds. 

If elected, Devin Shtykalo says that he would start out by looking at the City's strategic plan with fellow council members and make some of the outcomes of the plan some of the goals and focuses for the next few years.

"And also to just bring forward any ideas that I've heard along the way throughout this election period and campaign period. Citizens have brought forward some ideas and... I want to make sure that those are brought forward and discussed and make sure that... those are reflected in some of the council goals going forward," he adds.

As for the crime situation in Dauphin, Shtykalo says that it's something that the City takes really seriously.

"City Council meets regularly with the police service here and they'll continue to do that as the City has a good working relationship with them... Through that relationship, the City is able to bring concerns and issues forward, so that the RCMP can hear those and can address those through their channels for sure, but also to continue exploring and looking at alternative safety measures, like the Citizens on Patrol Program," he adds.

An RCMP officer was assaulted in Dauphin Friday by two male suspects wanted in relation to a stolen vehicle.

At around 1:30 p.m., a member of the Dauphin RCMP detachment located the two males walking on 2nd Ave. N.E. and warned them that they were both under arrest.

Both of them — wanted for possession of a stolen vehicle and flight from a police investigation — began to resist and fight the officer.

Police say that the officer used pepper spray on the suspects and that one of them fled the area.

They also say that a passerby, who was hit by overspray as they were exiting a building, helped the officer get the second suspect into custody.

A 24-year-old man from Dauphin is in custody on the charges of assaulting a police officer and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect who fled the area.

He is described as being in his late teens, approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall with a slim build, scruffy black hair, a camouflage sweater and tan pants.

The RCMP are asking anyone who may have any information regarding this incident to contact the Dauphin RCMP at 204-622-5050, call Manitoba Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or submit a secure tip online.

They can also text “TIPMAN” along with a message to CRIMES (274637).

The Manitoba Conservation Officer gave their Service Enforcement Update today, and there were multiple offenses in our area.

On August 28th, Four Saskatchewan hunters were fined $12,000 and given an order to appear in court after shooting two moose inside a protected area near Riding Mountain National Park.

Conservation officers in Saskatchewan spotted a suspicious vehicle driving near the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border in late August. Officers then witnessed someone in the vehicle shoot two moose inside Manitoba, within a conservation closure area.

They contacted Manitoba Conservation officers in Roblin, who arrived at the scene to investigate. Four people from Saskatchewan were issued Manitoba court appearance notices for two counts of possessing moose killed within a moose conservation closure area.

A $12,000 restitution notice was issued by the officers at the scene, but it will be up to the court to determine the full penalty. A rifle along with other hunting equipment and the animals were seized at the scene.

On September 3rd, Conservation officers in the Ashern area apprehended two individuals for illegally fishing using gill nets in Lake Manitoba. The pair were charged under the Fisheries Act for fishing without a license and unlawfully possessing fish caught without a license and a restitution notice for $3,108.

Officers also seized a boat, outboard motor, and fishing gear including two-gill nets, 74 walleye, and one quillback.

Then, on October 3rd, conservation officers in Dauphin received a report that there was a bull moose along PTH 5.

Officers found an individual hunting the moose from the back of an ATV, and they determined the hunter had fired shots over the highway. The hunter was charged with discharging a firearm so the projectile crosses a provincial road, with fines totaling $672.

Later that evening, officers got a call from a landowner saying someone had shot a moose on their property. Officers arrived at the scene to find the landowner and an individual.

They charged the individual for hunting on private land without permission and possession of illegally taken wildlife. They were fined a total of $4,282 for the two offenses, and the firearm and animal were both seized.

Environment Canada has issued multiple special weather statements for Dauphin and surrounding areas.

They are currently in effect for many communities in the following areas:

According to Environment Canada, the first winter storm of the season will impact parts of Manitoba Sunday into Monday.

They say that precipitation will begin early Sunday morning in parts of Manitoba initially as rain and change to snow Sunday evening for northern Manitoba and Monday afternoon for southwestern Manitoba and that freezing rain will also accompany this system, particularly over higher terrain and the northern Interlake.

They also say that snowfall totals remain uncertain at this time due to the tracking of the system as well as the melting and compaction of snow and that 5 to 15 centimetres of snow is possible over higher terrain and areas north of the low track.

Dauphin's Stephen Roznowsky was awarded the Stanley Knowles Solidarity Award at the Manitoba New Democratic Party's annual convention on October 14th.

Roznowsky says that he believes that his absolute love of people and devotion to making progress on social justice issues put him in the running for the award.

"[I've been] an employee of the [Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corporation] for 53 years and [have been] on the board of the MGEA, which stands for the Manitoba Government Employees Association and [is] now [known as] the Manitoba Government Employees Union... for about 41 [or] 42 years without a break... I've been a volunteer of the Winnipeg Folk Festival for... [44] years," he adds.

Stephen Roznowsky says that accepting the award from Manitoba NDP Leader Wab Kinew was a special experience.

"I didn't even know that I was nominated, so... when [Manitoba Federation of Labour President] Kevin Rebeck actually wanted to make sure that I was going to be there, I was choked up about it and definitely attended the conference and was able to go on stage and... shake hands... with the Manitoba New Democratic Party MLAs and have supper with them," he adds.

Roznowsky went on to say that it felt good to be seen as someone who has made a difference for working people and social justice in the province of Manitoba.

According to the Manitoba Federation of Labour, the Stanley Knowles Solidarity Award is presented at each Manitoba NDP convention to a trade unionist who has shown a deep commitment to working people and the achievement of social justice through recognized contributions to the union movement and the Manitoba NDP.

The Grand Vieux Liquor Company(GVLC) launched its Hard Shot Vodka in March this year, and they already have another product in the works says Co-Founder Pierce Cairns.

"We've been working on some other products, and I think we can probably let the cat slightly out of the bag because we did have it available in a small batch at the Grandview Homecoming. We've been working on a Coffee Liquor for about five years, that was one of the things we were developing before we were anywhere close to getting licensed for production. So after a lot of effort, we have a recipe that we're quite pleased with."

The company has been working on the Coffee Liqueur for a while now, and Cairns says they've already been in talks with Manitoba Liquor. Right now they're just focusing on production and making sure that when the item becomes available province-wide, it stays available.

"We told Manitoba Liquor at the outset, that we never want them to worry about us not having supply because you do see that happen. Maybe a vodka that you like's not on the shelf, and it's months and months before it appears, and that's because of supply chain issues or production issues. We said we don't want to be that guy, we want it to be available whenever they need. With the Coffee Liqueur, there are obviously more components to it, but we do have those all ready to go, and we're looking at doing a larger batch right away."

The Swan River RCMP has identified the remains that were found after a house fire in Birch River Monday afternoon. Police say that a 68-year-old man from Birch River is the victim, and his death is being treated as a homicide.

21-year-old Lincoln Chartrand-Flett of Birch River was arrested and has been charged with Second Degree Murder. He was remanded into custody and will appear in Dauphin Court on Tuesday October 25th.
